Today’s Covid-19 Update for Wednesday, December 9 2020

12/09/2020

Roseau County has 1449 Positive Cases; with 30 new cases reported today; and 7 accumulated deaths.

After two days of lower death totals, Minnesota is reporting 82 new fatal cases of COVID-19 and more than 4,500 new cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus in Wednesday’s status report.

The 82 deaths brings the number of fatal COVID-19 cases in Minnesota during the pandemic to 4,109. Fifty-one of the 82 deaths were residents of long-term care facilities, which have accounted for 2,711 of the 4,109 total deaths.

The state has reported 516 deaths through the first nine days of December after reporting 1,140 fatal cases in November, which is far and away the deadliest month in Minnesota so far.

The 4,539 positive results in Wednesday’s update were from a total of 39,591 completed tests, creating a daily test positivity rate of 11.46%.

The World Health Organization recommended in May that a percent positive rate (total positives divided by total completed tests) of below 5% for at least two weeks is necessary to safely reopen the economy. That 5% threshold is based on total positives divided by total tests.

According to Johns Hopkins University, Minnesota’s percent positive over the past seven days is 10.88%.

The 39,591 completed tests were from 15,794 people. People are often tested more than once, so the test positivity rate when dividing positives by people tested is 28.74% today.

Statewide:

  • Total tests: 4,690,213 (up from 4,650,726)
  • People tested: 2,695,015 (up from 2,679,221)
  • Positive cases: 363,719 (up from 359,203)
  • Deaths: 4,109 – 98 of which are “probable*” (up from 4,027)
  • Active cases: 43,486 (down from 44,246)
  • Patients no longer requiring isolation: 320,233 (up from 314,957)

Updated daily with data current as of 4 p.m. the previous day.
