10/27/2020

Roseau County 285 Positive Cases; with 9 new cases reported today; 72  ACTIVE Cases; 213 having recovered (out of isolation).

After reaching a new high during the pandemic with 616 COVID-19 patients hospitalized through Sunday, the Minnesota Department of Health’s newest update shows that number has grown to 658 people with COVID-19 hospitalized through Tuesday.

That includes 165 people with COVID-19 in intensive care and a further 493 patients hospitalized in a non-ICU bed, according to health department data.

Overall, Minnesota’s hospitals have a maximum of 1,874 ICU bed, and 997 of those are currently occupied (165 being patients with COVID-19). More than 3,000 non-ICU beds remain available statewide (6,299 of 9,545 are occupied – that’s 66% filled).

Meanwhile, Minnesota’s COVID-19 death toll increased by 15, reaching 2,368 since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Of the 15 newly reported deaths Tuesday, four people were under the age of 60: Three people aged 55-59 from Anoka, Carlton and Ramsey counties, respectively, and one person aged 50-54 from Le Sueur County.

Of the dead since the first fatal case was reported in March, 1,653 were residents of long-term care facilities, including four of the 15 included in Tuesday’s update.

There were 2,178 positive tests reported Tuesday, of which 14 were removed for an official total of 2,164 confirmed cases. The MDH reported 14,784 diagnostic PCR tests and an additional 50 antigen tests for a total of 14,834 completed tests.

Those tests were from 7,755 people tested. As if often the case, patients are tested multiple times, so the more accurate reading for test positivity rate is based on the total number of people tested, which today is 27.9%.

The positivity rate for Tuesday when total cases is divided by total tests is 14.59%. Health experts say positivity rates need to be below the 5% mark to control the spread of the virus.

Statewide:

  • Total tests: 2,724,320 (up from 2,710,177)
  • People tested: 1,791,688 (up from 1,783,933)
  • Positive cases: 137,536 (up from 135,372)
  • Deaths: 2,368 – 14 of which are “probable*” (up from 2,353)
