01/03/2021

Roseau County has 1589 Positive Cases; with 0 new cases reported today; and 14 accumulated deaths.

Sunday’s COVID-19 update from the Minnesota Department of Health includes data from New Year’s Day and Jan,. 2, and the combined total from both days includes 53 deaths and more than 2,700 new laboratory-confirmed cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

There have now been 5,430 deaths from the virus during the pandemic, of which (64.4%) (3,499) came from long-term care, including 35 of the 53 reported Sunday.

Minnesota has yet to confirm the new variant of the coronavirus that is circulating in Europe and other parts of the world.

The state is now providing updates for how many people have received the COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. Through Dec. 27, the state says 57,017 people have been vaccinated in Minnesota, the large majority of whom are healthcare workers who have received the Pfizer vaccine.

The 2,714 positive results in Sunday’s update were from a total of 96,425 completed tests, creating a daily test positivity rate of 2.81%. The positives and tests are from Friday and Saturday, thus the higher numbers.

The World Health Organization recommends that a percent positive rate (total positives divided by total completed tests) of below 5% for at least two weeks is necessary to safely reopen the economy. That 5% threshold is based on total positives divided by total tests.

According to Johns Hopkins University, Minnesota’s test positivity rate over the past seven days is 5.62%, with Minnesota no longer one of the states with a 7-day positive rate below 5%, having achieved that mark for a few days last week.

Statewide:

  • Total tests: 5,713,240 (up from 5,616,567)
  • People tested: 3,017,309 (up from 2,982,853)
  • Positive cases: 420,544 (up from 417,832)
