Fourteen more people have died and more than 2,200 people have been infected with COVID-19, according to Saturday’s update from the Minnesota Department of Health.

The death toll for the duration of the pandemic is up to 2,328, the majority of whom 1,633 were people living in long-term care settings. Nine of the 14 newly reported deaths Saturday were residents of long-term care.

There were 2,268 positive tests reported, of which nine were removed for a total of 2,259 confirmed cases – this is close to the highest ever positive cases in a single day. The MDH reported 35.428 diagnostic PCR tests and an additional 1,060 antigen tests for a total of 36,488 completed tests.

Those tests were from 9,853 people tested. As if often the case, patients are tested multiple times, so the more accurate reading for test positivity rate is based on the total number of people tested, which today is 22.9%.

The positivity rate for Saturday when total cases is divided by total tests is 6.19%. Health experts say positivity rates need to be below the 5% mark to control the spread of the virus.
