Today’s Covid-19 Update for Saturday, December 12 2020

12/12/2020

Roseau County has 1500 Positive Cases; with 21 new cases reported today; and 8 accumulated deaths.

Minnesota’s Saturday COVID-19 update includes 67 more deaths, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

The latest deaths include a person aged 40-44 in Mille Lacs County. Thirty-seven of the 67 deaths occurred in long-term care facilities, while one happened in a jail or prison.

The 67 newly reported deaths brings the number of fatal COVID-19 cases in Minnesota during the pandemic to 4,359. Long-term care deaths account for 2,856 (65.5%) of the total.

The state has reported 766 deaths through the first 12 days of December after reporting 1,140 fatal cases in November, which was far and away the deadliest month in Minnesota so far.

The 4,430 positive results in Saturday’s update were from a total of 50,366 completed tests, creating a daily test positivity rate of 8.79%, the third consecutive day that the rate is below 10%, but higher than the 6.45% reported Friday.

The World Health Organization recommended in May that a percent positive rate (total positives divided by total completed tests) of below 5% for at least two weeks is necessary to safely reopen the economy. That 5% threshold is based on total positives divided by total tests.

According to Johns Hopkins University, Minnesota’s percent positive over the past seven days is 9.91%.

The 50,366 completed tests were from 17,394 people. People are often tested more than once, so the test positivity rate when dividing positives by people tested is 25.46% today.

Statewide:

  • Total tests:  4,840,190 (up from 4,789,829)
  • People tested:  2,743,864 (up from 2,726,470)
  • Positive cases:  375,398 (up from 370,968)
  • Deaths: 4,359 – 108 of which are “probable*” (up from 4,292)
  • Active cases: 40,140 (down from 43,459)
  • Patients no longer requiring isolation: 335,258 (up from 327,509)

Updated daily with data current as of 4 p.m. the previous day.
