Today’s Covid-19 Update for Friday, October 9 2020

10/09/2020

Roseau County has 153 Positive Cases; with 3 new cases reported today; 16 ACTIVE Cases; 137 having recovered (out of isolation).

The World Health Organization says that a 14-day positive test rate of below 5 percent is the key to keeping businesses open.

Friday’s COVID-19 report from the Minnesota Department of Health includes 14 new deaths, 12 of whom were residents of long-term care facilities. People from long-term care settings now account for 1,513 of the 2,121 confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Minnesota since March.

Meanwhile, the number of current COVID-19 patients who are hospitalized includes 133 in an ICU (down from 139 Thursday) and 338 in non-ICU care. That’s a total of 471, which is up from 457 on Thursday.

The public dashboard has also been updated, now show the state’s hospitals have a maximum capacity of 1,903 ICU beds, of which 1,090 are currently occupied. The state also is currently seeing 6,958 of 9,974 (70%) non-ICU hospital beds occupied.

Meanwhile, Thursday’s update includes 1,401 new cases, 11 of which have been removed for an official count is 1,390 cases. Those positives are the result of 16,973 people tested, creating a 24-hour reporting period test positivity rate of 8.19%.

The positive test rate is lower from the perspective when the number of individuals producing positive tests (1,390) divided by total completed tests (31,857). In that case, the positivity rate is 4.36%.

The “tests completed” number is always higher than the “people tested” metric because some people get tested multiple times and those who test positive are only counted once, so it produces a less accurate positivity rate.

Statewide:

  • Total tests: 2,256,165 (up from 2,224,194)
  • People tested: 1,543,532 (up from 1,526,559)
  • Positive cases: 109,312 (up from 107,922)
  • Deaths: 2,121 (up from 2,107)
  • Hospitalized (cumulative since start of pandemic): 8,251 (up from 8,187)
  • ICU admissions (cumulative): 2,267 (up from 2,245)
  • Patients no longer requiring isolation: 97,715 (up from 97,254)
