MEMORIAL SERVICES ARE PENDING FOR ARLETTE  KOEHLER OF WARROAD. SHE WAS  70.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  MEETING IN SPECIAL SESSION LAST NIGHT,  UNANIMOUSLY  APPROVED IMPLEMENTATION OF FLEXIBLE LEARNING FRIDAYS FOR ALL GRADES;  WITH SCHOOL AGE CHILDCARE FOR KIDS OF TIER ONE CRITICAL WORKERS,  AND WITH LEARNING READINESS REMAINING ON FRIDAYS. A SIMILAR MOTION A WEEK AGO FAILED ON A  3-3 VOTE. THE NEW SCHEDULE STARTS OCTOBER 30TH AND CONTINUES THROUGH MID-JANUARY. FIVE TEACHERS SPOKE DURING THE VIRTUAL MEETING,  VOICING THEIR CONCERNS AND CITING A STATEWIDE SURVEY THAT SAID 29 PERCENT OF TEACHERS WERE CONSIDERING QUITTING OR RETIRING DUE TO COVID RELATED STRESS.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  YESTERDAY,  PASSED A RESOLUTIONS AND PROCLAMATIONS POLICY; ADOPTING GUIDELINES FOR A NONPARTISAN ELECTED BODY.    THE POLICY SAYS ROSEAU COUNTY DOES NOT TAKE POSITIONS ON SOCIAL OR POLITICAL ISSUES;  AND WON’T ADVOCATE FOR POLICIES OR POSITIONS THAT DON’T HAVE A DIRECT RELATIONSHIP TO COUNTY PROGRAMS,  SERVICES OR BUDGETS.

THE ROSEAU POLICE DEPARTMENT TOOK IN A PAIR OF COUNTERFEIT ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS THIS WEEK;  AND THE ROSEAU CIVIC AND COMMERCE ASSOCIATION IS ASKING BUSINESSES TO BE WATCHFUL FOR FAKE BILLS.

A NEW HIGHWAY  72  INTERNATIONAL BRIDGE BETWEEN BAUDETTE  AND RAINY RIVER, ONTARIO IS OPEN.    THE THIRTY-NINE MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT STARTED IN  2018. THAT BRIDGE IS THE ONLY BORDER CROSSING BETWEEN THE U.S. AND CANADA FOR FIFTY MILES IN EITHER DIRECTION. IRONICALLY,  THE COMPLETION OF THE BRIDGE HAPPENS WHILE THE COVID PANDEMIC HAS CLOSED THE BORDER BETWEEN THE U.S. AND CANADA.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAYS SNOW IS POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND.  FORECASTER NATHAN RICK IN GRAND FORKS SAYS THERE IS A HALF AND HALF CHANCE FOR SOME ACCUMULATION SATURDAY …. TEMPERATURES ARE ALSO TURNING COLDER,  WITH HIGHS ONLY IN THE THIRTIES INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK.

A PUBLIC VISITATION,  FOLLOWING MINNESOTA COVID-19 GUIDELINES,  FOR  LORETTA VOLL OF SALOL IS THIS EVENING  (5-7 PM)  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.    A PRIVATE FUNERAL WITH BURIAL AT NORLAND CEMETERY IS AT A LATER DATE. LORETTA VOLL WAS  86.

YESTERDAY WAS THE DEADLINE FOR MINNESOTA RESIDENTS TO  PRE-REGISTER FOR THE NOVEMBER ELECTDION. BUT PEOPLE CAN STILL GO TO THEIR COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICE  (IN ROSEAU,   THAT’S THE AUDITOR’S OFFICE)  TO TAKE CARE OF REGISTRATION AND VOTE ON THE SPOT. BROWN COUNTY AUDITOR/TREASURER  JEAN PROCHNIAK SAYS THERE IS A PANDEMIC TWIST TO THAT IN  2020 …. THE MINNESOTA SECRETARY OF STATE’S OFFICE SAYS MORE THAN FORTY PERCENT OF ELIGIBLE VOTERS HAVE REQUESTED AN ABSENTEE BALLOT THIS YEAR.

THE BADGER SCHOOL HAD IT’S FIRST CONFIRMED CASE OF CORONAVIRUS THIS WEEK. SUPERINTENDENT KEVIN RICKE IT’S THE FIRST TIME THEY’VE HAD TO WORK WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH DECISION TREE ….

THE  U.S.D.A. IS MAKING GRANTS AVAILABLE TO PROVIDE BROADBAND IN UNSERVED RURAL AREAS THROUGH THEIR COMMUNITY CONNECT GRANT PROGRAM.PRIORITY IS GIVEN TO RURAL AREAS THAT DEMONSTRATE THE GREATEST NEED FOR HIGH SPEED INTERNET SERVICE.

THE MINNESOTA   D.N.R.  OFFERS IT’S ANNUAL YOUTH FIREARMS DEER HUNT THIS WEEKEND …BEN HUENER IS A CONSERVATION OFFICER FOR THE STATE  D.N.R.

THE CITY OF ROSEAU IS NOW IN THE AIRPLANE FUEL BUSINESS. OPERATION OF THE FUEL SYSTEM AT THE ROSEAU AIRPORT HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED FROM  VALLEY  MEDFLIGHT TO THE CITY.
