ROSEAU AND WARROAD SCHOOLS ARE SEEKING READING AND MATH TUTORS FOR THE COMING SCHOOL YEAR. WARROAD IS LOOKING FOR EIGHT MINNESOTA READING CORPS AND MINNESOTA MATH CORPS TUTORS,  AND ROSEAU FIVE. THERE ARE VARYING TIME COMMITMENT LEVELS,  AND FULLTIME TUTORS CAN EARN A STIPEND OF  650 DOLLARS EVERY TWO WEEKS,  PLUS MONEY FOR STUDENT LOANS OR TUITION, PLUS HEALTH INSURANCE. AMERICORPS IS LOOKING FOR NEARLY EIGHTEEN HUNDRED TUTORS ACROSS MINNESOTA.

ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL IS HANDING OUT YEARBOOKS AND SELLING EXTRAS FOR FIFTY DOLLARS TODAY  (Ten to One)  AND TOMORROW  (Ten to Noon)  AT THE SCHOOL CAFETERIA DOORS.

THE LAST TWO MONTHS OF THE LAST SCHOOL YEAR’S INSTRUCTION WAS DONE VIA DISTANCE LEARNING. KEVIN RICKE SAYS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM BADGER FACES IS SOCIAL DISTANCING ON IT’S BUSSES … EIGHTY PERCENT OF BADGER STUDENTS GET TO SCHOOL ON A BUS.

 

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HAS UP TO FIFTY-SIX MILLION DOLLARS AVAILABLE FOR COUNTIES,  CITIES,  PORTS,  RAILROADS AND AIRPORTS THROUGH IT’S  HIGHWAY FREIGHT PROGRAM.  THE MONEY CAN BE USED ON ANY PUBLIC ROAD,  RAILROAD CROSSING OR INTERMODAL FACILITY  (IF THE PROJECT PROVIDES A PUBLIC FREIGHT BENEFIT).

ROSEAU COUNTY AUDITOR MARTIE MONSRUD HAS RECEIVED A NINE THOUSAND DOLLAR CHECK FOR ELECTION-RELATED COVID-19 EXPENSES THROUGH THE  FEDERAL  “CARES”  ACT.

A GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR THE FORTY MILLION DOLLAR ROSEAU SCHOOL RENOVATION PROJECT WAS HELD LAST THURSDAY. THAT PROJECT WAS MADE MORE AFFORDABLE FOR DISTRICT TAXPAYERS WHEN A BOND SALE CAME IN AT  2.14 PERCENT,  OR JUST OVER HALF THE ORIGINAL GUESS BY FINANCIAL ADVISORS  EHLERS AND ASSOCIATES … MATT HAMMER WITH EHLERS,  REFERRING TO THE ESTIMATE FOR A  150 THOUSAND DOLLAR HOME.

ESTIMATES FOR A PROPOSED APARTMENT BUILDING IN ROSEAU ARE HIGHER THAN EXPECTED. THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY IS LOOKING AT A PROJECT TO ADDRESS A DEMAND FOR RENTAL HOUSING IN ROSEAU,  AS POLARIS CONTINUES TO HIRE NEW EMPLOYEES. DEVELOPER  D.W. JONES SAYS MINNESOTA HOUSING DOLLARS WILL BE NECESSARY FOR GAP FINANCING FOR ANOTHER APARTMENT BUILDING.

CONSERVATIONISTS WANT CONGRESS TO APPROVE THE GREAT AMERICAN OUTDOORS ACT,  WHICH WOULD FULLY FUND THE LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION FUND.   ANNE MULHOLLAND, THE DIRECTOR OF THE NATURE CONSERVANCY IN MINNESOTA AND THE DAKOTAS,  SAYS THE MONEY IS CRUCIAL AS MINNESOTA TRIES TO PROTECT ENDANGERED LANDS … U.S. SENATOR AMY KLOBUCHAR SAYS VOYAGEURS NATIONAL PARK  (NEAR INTERNATIONAL FALLS)   WOULD BENEFIT FROM THE FUNDING.

GRAVESIDE SERVICES FOR SHAWN HAMANN ARE THURSDAY MORNING AT ELEVEN AT THE BADGER CITY CEMETERY. SHAWN HAMANN WAS SIXTEEN MONTHS OLD.

MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR DAVID  FRISLIE OF BADGER ARE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT TWO AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.   VISITATION IS THURSDAY EVENING  (5-7 PM)  AT HELGESON’S.   MILITARY HONORS ARE BY THE ROSEAU/BADGER  AMERICAN LEGION. DAVID FRISLIE WAS  88. MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR ELVIRA LINDEGREN ARE SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT ONE  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. ELVIRA  LINDEGREN WAS  90. PER THE DECEASED’S  WISHES,  THERE WILL BE NO SERVICE FOR LOUISE TVEIT OF WILLIAMS. LOUISE TVEIT WAS  90.

ON A ROSEAU COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TELECONFERENCE YESTERDAY,  JULIE PAHLEN FROM LIFECARE PUBLIC HEALTH SAID THERE ARE NOW  38 CONFIRMED COVID CASES IN ROSEAU COUNTY;  ALTHOUGH THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH WEBSITE STILL LISTED THE NUMBER AT  32.23 OF THOSE 38 CASES ARE IN PEOPLE AGED FIVE TO THIRTY-NINE;  AND FOUR OF THE 38 ARE  (OR WERE) CONSIDERED SERIOUS.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  LAST NIGHT,  HELD THEIR FINAL MEETING IN THE CURRENT BOARDROOM,  DUE TO CONSTRUCTION.SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION WILL MOVE TO A NEW LOCATION IN THE SCHOOL LIBRARY.JOSH KEHRWALD WITH  J-L-G  ARCHITECTS SAID THERE MAY BE A NEED TO         SUB-DIVIDE THE ELEMENTARY PORTION OF THE EXISTING BUILDING DURING CONSTRUCTION IN ORDER TO MEET BUILDING CODES.  THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND INDUSTRY WANTS A SAFER ENVIRONMENT FOR STUDENTS DURING THE RENOVATION AND BUILDING PROJECT.   KEHRWALD SAID THE SCHOOL WOULD HAVE TO ADD FIRE-RATED DOORS AT A COST OF BETWEEN  150 AND  200  THOUSAND DOLLARS.
