AT A ROSEAU COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COVID STAKEHOLDERS MEETING YESTERDAY,LIFECARE PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTOR JULIE PAHLEN SAID THERE HAVE BEEN  64 CONFIRMED COVID CASES IN THE COUNTY,  AND EIGHT ARE ACTIVE.   ROSEAU COUNTY’S  ROLLING 14 DAY AVERAGE IS JUST UNDER SIX.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR RONALD TORKELSON OF ROSEAU IS THURSDAY AT NOON AT PINECREEK LUTHERAN CHURCH. RON TORKELSON WAS  65.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR ROBERT BUSICK OF WILLIAMS IS TUESDAY,  SEPTEMBER FIRST  (11 A.M.)  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. ROBERT  BUSICK WAS  70.

GRAVESIDE SERVICES FOR ELEANOR JOHNSON OF ROSEAU ARE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT TWO  AT THE MALUNG CEMETERY. ELEANOR JOHNSON WAS  90.

THE MINNESOTA COMMISSION ON JUDICIAL SELECTION HAS ANNOUNCED A VACANCY IN THE  9TH  DISTRICT,  AFTER THE RETIREMENT OF JUDGE CHARLES LeDUC. LeDUC HAS BEEN CHAMBERED AT INTERNATIONAL FALLS IN KOOCHICHING COUNTY. ROSEAU COUNTY IS PART OF A GEOGRAPHICALLY LARGE 9TH DISTRICT.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IS REMINDING PEOPLE RUNNING FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE THAT  POLITICAL SIGNS ARE PROHIBITED ON HIGHWAY RIGHT-OF-WAY;  WHICH INCLUDES DITCHES AND SIGHT CORNERS AT INTERSECTIONS. VIOLATION OF THE LAW IS A MISDEMEANOR.

A GROUP CALLED  PROSPERITY’S FRONT DOOR HAS A VIRTUAL MEETING THIS AFTERNOON ON HOUSING CHALLENGES IN A TIME OF CRISIS. PARTICIPANTS INCLUDE MINNESOTA HOUSING COMMISSIONER  JENNIFER HO.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY MUSEUM IS EXPECTED TO RE-OPEN EARLY NEXT MONTH. THE MUSEUM WAS ORIGINALLY CLOSED IN MARCH DUE TO THE PANDEMIC,  AND HAS REMAINED CLOSED FOR A LIGHTING UPGRADE. MUSEUM CURATOR  BRITT DAHL SAYS MANY VISITORS  WILL GET A FIRST-EVER LOOK AT THE  ROSEAU STONE. THE STONE WAS FOUND BY JAKE NELSON OF ROSEAU IN HIS GARDEN JUST OVER A HUNDRED YEARS AGO,  AND WAS AT THE UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA FOR MANY YEARS BEFORE BEING RETURNED TO THE ROSEAU MUSEUM.

ROSEAU PRESCHOOL SCREENINGS ARE SEPTEMBER  8TH THROUGH THE 15TH,  AND SCHOOL READINESS CLASSES START SEPTEMBER 21ST.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  THIS MONTH,  HIRED  VERNA  McVAY AS A LONGTERM SUBSTITUTE IN HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH,  AND HIRED LORI KVIEN AS A FULLTIME ENGLISH TEACHER.

THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC IS HAVING AN EFFECT ON FOOD SHELVES AROUND MINNESOTA. THE NORTH COUNTRY FOOD BANK,  BASED IN EAST GRAND FORKS,  PROVIDES PRODUCT FOR FOOD SHELVES IN ROSEAU AND WARROAD. SUSIE NOVAK IS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR THE FOOD BANK ….

SIX NATIVE AMERICAN CANDIDATES WILL BE ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT IN MINNESOTA FOR STATE SENATE AND HOUSE RACES.ONE OF THEM IS GAYLENE SPOLARICH,  WHO’S RUNNING FOR THE HOUSE DISTRICT  10B SEAT CURRENTLY HELD BY REPUBLICAN DALE LUECK OF AITKIN. SPOLARICH IS A MEMBER OF THE TURTLE MOUNTAIN BAND OF CHIPPEWA.

A VITALANT BLOOD DRIVE IS THIS AFTERNOON  AT THE GRYGLA COMMUNITY CENTER.
