Funeral services for Marlys Benson, formerly of Roseau, will be held on Friday, April 23, 2020 at 11 AM at Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska.  Visitation one hour prior with interment at Mickinock Cemetery.

Marlys Mae (Olson) Benson, 80, of Wilsonville, OR, passed away on December 7, 2020 at Legacy Meridian Hospital in Tualatin, OR.  Funeral services are being arranged through Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN, with details of funeral services to be determined.

Marlys was born December 16, 1939 to Ralph and Hannah Olson in Wannaska, MN.  She went to grade school in Wannaska and graduated from Roseau High School in 1957.  She continued her education at Normal school in Thief River Falls and taught 6-8 grade at the Gatzke, MN school until she married Charles Benson in 1963.

In marriage, she moved to Minot, ND and then lived in several other states due to job transfers for Charles.  Her last move was to Wilsonville, OR.  She raised her three children through all these moves with several different schools and did a fantastic job.  She also worked part time in sales at Penney’s in Minot, ND, sold Avon in several locations and worked in retail sales in Huron, SD and in Seattle, WA.  While she loved Avon sales, she really enjoyed her Huron, SD job selling men’s and ladies’ clothing and occasionally modeling clothes for them.  Each move involved a new church and at each one she enjoyed singing in the choir and was always a soloist.

She is survived by her husband Charles, her three children, Michael of Northville, MI, Kimberley of Wilsonville, OR and Timothy of Lake Oswego, OR. Michael (Ann) Benson have three children, Sarah of Chicago, IL, Matthew of Chicago, IL and Kathryn of Northville, MI. Timothy (Laurie) Benson have one child Porter of Lake Oswego, OR. Her surviving brothers are Erling (Marlys) Olson of Roseau, MN and Wally (Arlene) Olson of WI.  She was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy (Irv) Wicklander.
