ROSEAU FIREFIGHTERS WERE CALLED OUT EARLY THIS MORNING TO A CONTROLLED BURN SITE, WHERE HAY BALES CAUGHT FIRE. THE ALARM WENT OFF AT ABOUT 1:45 A.M.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD, THIS WEEK, APPROVED A 105 THOUSAND DOLLAR PURCHASE OF A HOUSE OWNED BY GENE TREMAINE OF PRIOR LAKE. THE HOUSE IS ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE SCHOOL PROPERTY. BOARD MEMBER TIM FUGLEBERG CONTINUES NEGOTIATIONS WITH ANOTHER HOME OWNER ADJACENT TO SCHOOL PROPERTY ON 4TH AVENUE NORTHEAST.

THE SCHOOL BOARD ALSO GRANTED TENURE TO HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS MURRAY GINTHER AND TYLER LANDMAN; AND TO ELEMENTARY TEACHER KELSEY VATNSDAL.

 

NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA COMPANIES LIKE POLARIS AND MARVIN WINDOWS AND DOORS CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE WITH WORKFORCE SHORTAGES. THAT SAME ISSUE IS AFFECTING MOST OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA, DUE TO THE NUMBER OF RETIREES. THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SAYS THERE IS FEWER THAT ONE UNEMPLOYED PERSON FOR EVERY JOB VACANCY IN GREATER MINNESOTA.

MARVIN WINDOWS AND POLARIS ARE AMONG THE COUNTY EMPLOYERS LOOKING AT A MARKETING CAMPAIGN TO BRING NEW RESIDENTS (AND POTENTIAL WORKERS) TO NORTHERN MINNESOTA.

 

THE FARM SERVICE AGENCY, STARTING NEXT MONTH, WILL BE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE CONSERVATION RESERVE PROGRAM; AND WILL OFFER EXTENSIONS FOR EXPIRING C.R.P. CONTRACTS.

 

AS ROSEAU COUNTY COMMUNITIES AND EMPLOYERS SEEK WAYS TO ATTRACT NEW PEOPLE TO THE AREA, BEN WINCHESTER (WITH UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA EXTENSION) SAYS THERE ARE REASONS MANY PEOPLE ARE CHOOSING SMALL TOWNS AND RURAL AREAS.

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY ASSESSOR’S OFFICE REMINDS MOBILE HOME OWNERS THAT A HOMESTEAD CLASSIFICATION IS AVAILABLE.
THE MOBILE HOME MUST BE OCCUPIED BY THE OWNER OR A RELATIVE BY NEXT WEDNESDAY (May 29) TO QUALIFY.

A.A.R.P.’S LIST OF MINNESOTA’S “FIFTY OVER FIFTY”, A LIST THAT RECOGNIZES PEOPLE OVER AGE FIFTY WHO ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES, WILL BE RELEASED IN AUGUST.
