THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD HAS CHOSEN FOUR FINALISTS FROM AMONG SEVEN CANDIDATES FOR THE SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT’S JOB,  BEING VACATED BY THE RESIGNATION EARLIER THIS YEAR OF LARRY GUGGISBERG.

THOSE FOUR ARE TOM JEROME,  WHO IS CURRENTLY THE SUPERINTENDENT FOR THE BADGER AND GREENBUSH/MIDDLE RIVER SCHOOLS;   KEVIN RICKE, THE SUPERINTENDENT AT FOSSTON;   BETH ZIETZ,  A FORMER SUPERINTENDENT AT PARSHALL, NORTH DAKOTA;   AND DARREN KERN,  WHO’S A MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL AT BIG LAKE,  MINNESOTA.

 

A MINNESOTA SENATE AMENDMENT TO CREATE A BUFFER STRIP TAX CREDIT HAS FAILED ON  A  35-32 PARTY LINE VOTE,  WITH REPUBLICANS OPPOSED.

DFL SENATOR KENT EKEN OF TWIN VALLEY SUPPORTED THE AMENDMENT, WHICH WOULD HAVE PROVIDED SOME FUNDING FOR FARMERS REQUIRED TO CREATE BUFFER STRIPS ALONG THEIR AGRICULTURAL PROPERTY.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR JOYCE NEWCOM OF WARROAD IS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT FOUR  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN WARROAD.   VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR.

JOYCE NEWCOM WAS  76.

 

MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR LOREN NICHOLS OF BAUDETTE ARE SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT ONE AT THE CHURCH OF THE LIVING WATER IN BAUDETTE.  VISITATION IS FRIDAY EVENING  (6-8 PM)  AT THE CHURCH.

LOREN NICHOLS WAS  71.

 

FUNERAL SERVICES ARE PENDING FOR EDDY WOLFF OF GREENBUSH  (AND FORMERLY OF KARLSTAD).

EDDY WOLFF WAS  96.

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  APPROVED A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING  DE-LISTING THE TIMBERWOLF FROM THE ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST IN MINNESOTA.

THAT RESOLUTION WILL BE FORWARDED TO THE U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE.

 

DOCTOR BETH NOLAN SPEAKS ON DEMENTIA SATURDAY  (10-2)  AT THE ROSEAU SCHOOL THEATRE IN A FREE LUNCH AND LEARN SESSION.

THE FIRST ROUND OF INTERVIEWS FOR THE ROSEAU SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT JOB IS SCHEDULED TOMORROW AND FRIDAY.

THE MINNESOTA SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION WAS HIRED TO HELP THE ROSEAU DISTRICT IN IT’S SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH.

 

THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR THE WARROAD AREA EDUCATION ENDOWMENT FUND,  AND FOR THE GAYLORD GUNDERSON EDUCATION FUND IS FRIDAY.

THE WARROAD ENDOWMENT FUND IS INTENDED TO BENEFIT STUDENTS,  STAFF AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS;

THE GUNDERSON FUND IS AIMED PRIMARILY AT VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL PROGRAMS.

THE WARROAD AREA COMMUNITY FUND ADMINISTERS THOSE GRANTS.
