THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, THIS WEEK,  VOTED  4-1 TO ACCEPT THE LOW BID OF ROD WULFF CONSTRUCTION TO BUILD A SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT BUILDING,  TO BE USED FOR EVIDENCE STORAGE AND TRAINING; AND A COURTHOUSE GARAGE, TO HOUSE A DOZEN COUNTY-OWNED VEHICLES AND THE BUILDING MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT.  THE COST FOR THOSE TWO BUILDINGS IS JUST OVER TWO-POINT-ONE MILLION DOLLARS.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD HAS APPROVED SIX BIDS FOR FLOOD-RELATED PROJECTS AT THIRTY SEVEN SITES AT A COST OF  480 THOUSAND DOLLARS.  THAT WORK IS REIMBURSIBLE BY THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY.

 

THE ROSEAU FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS RESPONDED TO MORE THAN FORTY CALLS ALREADY IN 2021;  FIRE CHIEF CRAIG MCMILLIN SAYS HIS DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN “EXTREMELY BUSY”, AND THAT FIFTY TO SIXTY CALLS IN AN ENTIRE YEAR IS MORE COMMON.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL APPROVED NO INCREASE IN COST FOR TOWNSHIPS IN RURAL FIRE CONTRACTS FOR NEXT YEAR.

 

PARKS AND REC DIRECTOR KEITH SEVERSON SAYS MORE THAN A HUNDRED KIDS ARE INVOLVED IN TUESDAY YOUTH BALL;  AND A FOUR TEAM ADULT SOFTBALL LEAGUE STARTED PLAY MONDAY EVENING.

A POPULAR PROGRAM THAT GIVES SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM RECIPIENTS BETTER ACCESS TO HEALTHIER FOODS AT MINNESOTA FARMERS MARKETS HAS BEEN TIED UP IN BUDGET TALKS AT THE STATE CAPITOL.

AT LEAST TWO PEOPLE HAVE LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES AS THE RESULT OF WHAT MINNESOTA STATE PATROL HAS LABELED A FATAL CRASH BETWEEN A DUMP TRUCK AND AN AMBULANCE ON TUESDAY MORNING NORTHEAST OF GRAND RAPIDS IN ITASCA COUNTY. ACCORDING TO THE STATE PATROL REPORT, THE DUMP TRUCK STRUCK THE AMBULANCE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IN A T-BONE STYLE CRASH. DRIVERS OF EACH VEHICLE SUSTAINED LIFE THREATENING INJURIES, WHILE A 51 YEAR OLD MAN AND 17 YEAR OLD BOY WERE OTHER AMBULANCE PASSENGERS. THEIR CONDITION WAS EXPECTED TO BE RELEASED TODAY.
