THE BLACKWOODS BLIZZARD TOUR IS SET TO DEPART FROM DULUTH TODAY, WITH 250 SNOWMOBILE RIDERS GOING TO TOWER, THEN TWO HARBORS, AND RETURNING TO DULUTH ON SATURDAY. THE EVENT IS A FUNDRAISER FOR BATTLING ALS. NOW IN IT’S 23RD YEAR, THE EVENT HAS RAISED MORE THAN $14 MILLION.

Police in Minnesota say two students were shot, one fatally, outside a suburban Minneapolis school. Richfield Police Chief Jay Henthorne said the students were shot outside South Education Center. The surviving student was in critical condition Tuesday afternoon at a local hospital. Richfield police arrested two suspects and recovered a handgun after executing simultaneous search warrants at two Minneapolis addresses.

U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar has announced her intention to seek a third term representing Minnesota’s Fifth District. Omar was first elected to the House in 2019 and was the first Somali American in Congress.

Prosecutors say the former suburban Minneapolis police officer who was convicted of manslaughter in the killing of Daunte Wright should face a sentence above the state’s guidelines. But defense attorneys for Kim Potter say she should get a lower sentence — or even probation. Guidelines call for a sentence ranging from just more than six years to about 8 1/2 years. Her sentencing is Feb. 18.

A man has been convicted of two crimes in the high-profile September killing of a black bear that was dumped along a parking lot near popular hiking trails in the city. Aaron Alan Horn, 29, of Duluth, pleaded guilty and was convicted Jan. 27 of illegal transportation of big game and wanton waste in the case. Horn was sentenced to unsupervised probation and was ordered to pay $540 in fines, court fees and restitution to the state for the value of the bear.
