THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY HAS BEEN IN ROSEAU COUNTY THIS MONTH,  DOING A PRELIMINARY DAMAGE ASSESSMENT RELATED TO EXCESSIVE RAINFALL FROM LATE SEPTEMBER THROUGH MID-OCTOBER.

THE PRELIMINARY TOTAL IS  886 THOUSAND DOLLARS;   625 THOUSAND OF THOSE DOLLARS WOULD BE FOR WORK DONE ACROSS THE COUNTY.

 

A GREENBUSH/BADGER LIONS CLUB FUN NIGHT IS DECEMBER  6TH  AT THE GREENBUSH FIRE HALL.

THE PROCEEDS ARE USED FOR LIONS’  COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES.

 

WITH THE HOLIDAY SEASON AT HAND,  MANY RETAILERS ARE ADDING STAFF.

IN PAST YEARS,  THAT’S MEANT PART-TIME SEASONAL EMPLOYEES;  BUT ORIANE CASALE,  THE LABOR MARKET INFORMATION DIRECTOR FOR THE STATE OF MINNESOTA,  SAYS EMPLOYERS ARE ADDING OVERTIME HOURS FOR THEIR CURRENT WORKERS THIS YEAR.

 

NATIONALLY,  RETAIL JOB POSTINGS WERE UP FOUR PERCENT THIS YEAR.

 

LIFECARE PUBLIC HEALTH HAS A FLU VACCINE CLINIC THIS AFTERNOON             (3:30-5:30 PM)  AT THE WARROAD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HEALTH OFFICE.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  APPROVED CONTRACTING WITH HALVERSON SAND AND GRAVEL FOR PARKING LOT SNOW REMOVAL.

THE BOARD APPROVED THE HIRES OF LORI KVIEN AND KATE LAUGEN AS ENGLISH TEACHERS;  CARRIE HEDLUND AS A LONGTERM SUBSTITUTE KINDERGARTEN TEACHER;  AND TAMMY NIELSEN AS A SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER.

 

THIS IS NATIONAL DIABETES MONTH,  WITH AN EMPHASIS ON REDUCING THE RISK OF HEART ATTACKS AND STROKES IN PEOPLE WITH DIABETES.

KARLEEN THOMPSON IS THE DIETICIAN AT THE ROSEAU AREA DIABETES CENTER,  AT LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER.

 

AMERICANS WILL SPEND MORE THAN  FIVE HUNDRED FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS ON TURKEYS FOR THIS WEEK’S THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY;  THAT’S  FORTY-SIX MILLION BIRDS.

 

WORK WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THIS WINTER ON THE ROSEAU COUNTY PORTION OF THE GREAT NORTHERN TRANSMISSION LINE,  WITH COMPLETION EXPECTED LATE NEXT SPRING.

THAT LINE WILL CARRY MANITOBA HYDRO POWER TO GRAND RAPIDS.

A ‘WIC’  CLINIC IS TODAY AT GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN GRYGLA.
