THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  APPROVED A FIVE THOUSAND DOLLAR APPROPRIATION TO NORTHWEST COMMUNITY ACTION’S  LITTLE BROTHER/ LITTLE SISTER PROGRAM TO CARRY THAT PROGRAM THROUGH THE CALENDAR YEAR.

NORTHWEST COMMUNITY ACTION HAD ORIGINALLY ASKED FOR TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS,  BUT RECENTLY RECEIVED A DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE GRANT FOR THAT PROGRAM FOR 2020 AND  2021.

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY MUSEUM HOSTS AN INDOOR CHRISTMAS TREE WALK AND SCANDINAVIAN CHRISTMAS PROGRAM,  FEATURING ROSS SUTTER,  MONDAY EVENING.

 

WARROAD SUMMER THEATRE’S  ANNUAL MEETING IS THIS EVENING  (6:30-7:30 PM)  AT THE HUB IN WARROAD.

 

THE MINNESOTA POLLUTION CONTROL AGENCY  SAYS THE MAJORITY OF STREAMS IN THE MINNESOTA PORTION OF THE LAKE OF THE WOODS WATERSHED MEET STATE STANDARDS FOR WATER QUALITY;  BUT THE WEST BRANCH OF THE WARROAD RIVER EXCEEDED WATER QUALITY STANDARDS FOR  E.  COLI  BACTERIA.

THE LAKE OF THE WOODS WATERSHED IS EIGHTY PERCENT OPEN WATER OR WETLANDS;  TWELVE PERCENT OF THAT WATERSHED IS USED FOR AGRICULTURE.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  LAST NIGHT,  ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATIONS OF HIGH SCHOOL SECRETARY  GAIL RIMA, PART-TIME SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER  CHERYL REAVES, AND EVENING CUSTODIAN  AARON RIMA.

SEVERAL DOZEN 9TH GRADERS FROM  TYLER  LANDMAN’S  SOCIAL STUDIES CLASS WERE IN ATTENDANCE;  MR. LANDMAN REQUIRES STUDENTS TO ATTEND ONE PUBLIC MEETING AS A CLASS ASSIGNMENT.

 

THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE HAS AWARDED EIGHT HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT FOR LOCAL COOPERATIVES AND SMALL BUSINESSES IN MINNESOTA.

A QUARTER OF THAT MONEY GOES TO THE AGRICULTURAL UTILIZATION RESEARCH INSTITUTE.

 

ANOTHER NINE MILLION DOLLARS IN FEDERAL FUNDING IS AVAILABLE FOR FARMERS THROUGH THE MINNESOTA AGRICULTURAL WATER QUALITY CERTIFICATION PROGRAM.

THE MONEY IS USED BY FARMERS TO MINIMIZE RUNOFF INTO WATERWAYS;  BUT JUST FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND ACRES IN THE STATE ARE INVOLVED IN THE PROGRAM;  THAT’S ABOUT TWO PERCENT OF MINNESOTA’S FARMLAND.

 

APPRENTICESHIP MINNESOTA REPRESENTATIVES ARE AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER THIS MORNING  (9-10 A.M.)  TALKING ABOUT THE STATE’S  REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM.

 

WITH THANKSGIVING NEXT WEEK,  THE PERSONAL FINANCE WEBSITE  WalletHub SAYS ST PAUL IS THE TOP CITY IN THE NATION TO ENJOY A THANKSGIVING FEAST,  AND MINNEAPOLIS IS  14TH.

THAT’S BASED ON THINGS LIKE THE COST OF A THANKSGIVING DINNER, AND SHARE OF DELAYED AIRLINE FLIGHTS.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  EARLIER THIS MONTH,  APPROVED THE ROSEAU COURT TOWNHOMES BUDGET FOR NEXT YEAR … WHICH INCLUDES A FIFTEEN DOLLAR A MONTH RENT INCREASE.

 

ROSEAU COUNTY’S  TEAM  ‘EPIC’  IS STARTING A FIFTH YEAR OF EFFORTS TO REDUCE YOUTH ALCOHOL AND DRUG MISUSE,  WITH DRUG FREE COMMUNITIES  GRANT FUNDING.

CO-COORDINATOR DANI WOLF SAYS THE COALITION IS ALSO LOOKING AHEAD TOWARD ANOTHER FIVE YEARS OF FUNDING.
