REPRESENTATIVE MICHELLE FISHBACH IS LOOKING TO HAVE TWO POST OFFICES IN HER 7TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT RENAMED. THE FIRST WOULD BE IN VERGAS, WHERE IT WOULD BE NAMED AFTER JON GLAWE, A VETERAN WHO THEN DELIVERED MAIL FOR 36 YEARS ON THE SAME ROUTE HIS FATHER SERVED, AND THE SECOND IN OKLEE, NAMED AFTER COYA KNUTSON, THE FIRST FEMALE ELECTED TO CONGRESS FROM MINNESOTA.

THE MINNESOTA DNR AND DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY CONTINUE WITH CONTROLLED BURN PILES IN THE BELTRAMI FOREST EARLY THIS WEEK.

THE NORTHERN LIGHTS CONCERT SERIES BOARD MEMBERS WILL MEET SOON TO BEGIN SELECTING CONCERTS FOR THE 2022-23 SEASON. THE 2018-2019 SEASON WAS CUT SHORT BY THE PANDEMIC, AND THEY HAVE TWO CONCERTS IN APRIL AND MAY OF NEXT YEAR TO MAKE UP FOR THE MISSED SECOND HALF OF THAT SEASON.

A 5TH ANNUAL LIGHT UP THE HOLIDAYS EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 27TH IN WARROAD. HAYRIDES AND SLEDDING BEGIN AT 3:00 AT ALLISON PARK, WITH THE TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY AT 5:00. CAROLING, LIGHT REFRESHMENTS, AND A VISIT FROM SANTA WILL ALL BE PART OF THE EVENING.

LOCAL DNR OFFICIALS REPORTED MIXED RESULTS FROM HUNTERS IN THE SECOND WEEK OF DEER SEASON. SOME HUNTERS SAID THE DEER WERE MORE ACTIVE, BUT WITH THE SNOWSTORM, VISIBILITY WAS TOO POOR FOR MANY SHOTS. CONSERVATION OFFICER RYAN BROWN IN KARLSTAD, DID ASSIST A HUNTER WITH A SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND, THAT ONLY REQUIRED MINIMAL MEDICAL ATTENTION.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR MERYL RASMUSSON WILL BE HELD THIS THURSDAY (2 PM) AT FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH IN BAUDETTE. VISITATION WILL BE WEDNESDAY (5-7) AT HELGESON FUNERAL CHAPEL IN BAUDETTE. MERYL RASMUSSON WAS 88.

GETTING SET FOR THE SEASON, SPIRIT MOUNTAIN SKI AREA IN DULUTH HAS BEGUN MAKING SNOW. THEY HOPE SOME SLOPES WILL BE OPEN THANKSGIVING WEEKEND.
