MINNESOTA’S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN JULY WAS 3.9%, NEARLY WHERE IT WAS BEFORE THE PANDEMIC. MINNESOTA’S WORKFORCE PARTICIPATION RATE IS DOWN TO 67.8% FROM OVER 70% PRE-PANDEMIC.

Republican State Sen. Michelle Benson, of Ham Lake, has launched her campaign for Minnesota governor. Speaking to supporters in Blaine, she attacked Democratic Gov. Tim Walz for his handling of the pandemic and public safety. She spoke shortly after GOP Sen. Paul Gazelka, of East Gull Lake, said he’s resigning as Senate majority leader. It’s a step Gazelka has said he would take if he was going to run for governor.

Ontario has become the fourth Canadian province to announce residents will soon have to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 to enter restaurants, theaters, gyms and other indoor public venues. Premier Doug Ford said Wednesday the vaccination certificate program will take effect Sept. 22.
