THE NORTHWEST ANGLE LOAN PROGRAM, $5 MILLION THAT WAS OPEN TO ANY REMOTE RECREATIONAL BUSINESS IN THE AREA THAT LOST MORE THAN 30 PERCENT OF IT’S REVENUE BETWEEN MARCH OF 2020 AND 2021, HAS NOW HANDED OUT $2.6 MILLION IN 25 SEPARATE LOANS. THE LOANS CAN BE WORTH UP TO 75 PERCENT OF A BUSINESS’S GROSS ANNUAL INCOME FOR 2020, WITH A $500,000 MAXIMUM.

THE ROSEAU AREA COMMUNITY FUND IS ACCEPTING PROPOSALS FOR GRANTS ASSOCIATED WITH PROJECTS, PROGRAMS, OR ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE ENJOYED BY ROSEAU RESIDENTS AND VISITORS. THE FUND HAS UP TO $12,000 TO SPREAD ACROSS ANY NUMBER OF GRANTS. THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS NOVEMBER 12.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD HAS APPROVED THE SALE OF BONDS TO RE-FINANCE THE COUNTY JAIL, WHICH WAS BUILT IN 2006. CITIZENS STATE BANK OF ROSEAU PURCHASED THOSE BONDS AT A ONE PERCENT INTEREST RATE. THE RE-FINANCING WILL SAVE THE COUNTY ABOUT SIXTY THOUSAND DOLLARS OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD APPROVED MEMORIAL SIGNAGE ON HIGHWAY 310 (NORTH OF ROSEAU) FOR FORMER DEPUTY RICHARD K. MAGNUSSON, WHO WAS KILLED WHILE ON DUTY IN THE 1970’S.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR CHERYL PURDY OF WARROAD WILL BE HELD SUNDAY (5-6 PM) AT THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS IN SWIFT. CHERYL PURDY PASSED AWAY OCTOBER 8TH AT THE AGE OF 58.

A NEW NEWSPAPER HAS LAUNCHED IN INTERNATIONAL FALLS. THE RAINY LAKE GAZETTE IS PUBLISHING A WEEKLY ISSUE. IT STARTED A FREE PAPER IN JULY, AND TRANSITIONED TO A SUBSCRIPTION IN AUGUST AND NOW HAS A BASE OF 1,500 READERS. IN JUNE, THE JOURNAL PUBLISHED IT’S LAST EDITION AFTER A 110 YEAR RUN

THAT IT WAS ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT THE UNITED STATES WILL EASE BORDER RESTRICTIONS WITH CANADA, ALLOWING NON-ESSENTIAL CANADIAN TRAVELERS WHO HAVE BEEN FULLY VACCINATED TO ENTER THE U.S. VIA LAND AND FERRY PORTS OF ENTRY, EFFECTIVE IN NOVEMBER, WITH THE EXACT DATE STILL TO BE ANNOUNCED. THE SAME RULES WILL APPLY AT U.S.-MEXICO BORDER CROSSINGS. IN JANUARY, THE U.S. WILL ALSO REQUIRE THAT EVEN ESSENTIAL TRAVELERS, SUCH AS TRUCK DRIVERS, BE VACCINATED.
