YESTERDAY, THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED A 3 YEAR CONTRACT TO TOM JEROME FOR SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT. JEROME IS CURRENTLY SUPERINTENDENT WITH THE GREENBUSH-MIDDLE RIVER AND BADGER DISTRICTS, AND ALSO WAS AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL IN ROSEAU FROM 2001-2010.

 

AFTER 121 YEARS THE WARROAD PIONEER HAS PUBLISHED IT’S FINAL EDITION. FINANCIAL STRUGGLES HAVE LED TO THE DISCONTINUATION OF THAT NEWSPAPER. A GRAND FORKS HERALD STORY NOTES THAT SINCE THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF IT’S CLOSING, PUBLICATIONS SUCH AS THE NEW YORK TIMES, AND A DOCUMENTARY CREW FROM TOKYO HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH LOOKING TO SHARE THE STORY AND STRUGGLE OF SMALL TOWN NEWSPAPERS.

 

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR WILLIAM “BILL” HAGEN OF RURAL SALOL WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY (11 AM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. VISITATION WILL BE SUNDAY (5-8 PM) ALSO AT HELGESON’S. INTERMENT WILL BE AT SPRUCE CEMETERY AT A LATER DATE. BILL HAGEN WAS 81.

 

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR CHARLEY DURHAM OF BAUDETTE IS TOMORROW MORNING AT TEN AT FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH IN BAUDETTE. VISITATION IS THIS EVENING (6-8 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN BAUDETTE. BURIAL IS AT ELM PARK CEMETERY.

A MEMORIAL VISITATION FOR MICHAEL “BUGSY” ECKLUND OF BAUDETTE IS TOMORROW FROM FOUR TO SIX P.M., WITH A SIX O’CLOCK PRAYER SERVICE AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN BAUDETTE.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR HARVEY JOHNSON OF SALOL IS TOMORROW AFTERNOON AT 1:30 AT THE ROSEAU FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH. VISITATION IS THIS EVENING (5-7 PM) WITH A 6:30 PM PRAYER SERVICE AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU; AND AN HOUR PRIOR TO TOMORROW’S SERVICE. BURIAL IS AT NORLAND CEMETERY AT SALOL.

A ROSEAU EAGLES SOUP AND SALAD DAY IS TODAY (11-1) AT THE ROSEAU V.F.W. PROCEEDS GO TO THE EAGLES SCHOLARSHIP FUND.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, THIS WEEK, HEARD THAT MALUNG TOWNSHIP HASN’T SIGNED IT’S FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACT WITH THE ROSEAU FIRE DEPARTMENT; BUT HAS PAID IT’S FIRST HALF FEE.
COUNCIL MEMBER PAT NOVACEK SAYS AN ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OPINION SAYS CITY FIRE DEPARTMENTS CANNOT RESPOND TO ENTITIES THAT DON’T HAVE A CONTRACT.
