THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SAYS FORTY-SIX THOUSAND UNEMPLOYMENT APPLICATIONS WERE FILED IN NORTHWEST MINNESOTA THROUGH APRIL 25TH. THAT’S MORE THAN DOUBLE THE NEARLY TWENTY-TWO THOUSAND CLAIMS FILED ALL OF LAST YEAR.
ABOUT FIFTEEN PERCENT OF WORKERS IN THE REGION FILED A CLAIM BETWEEN MID-MARCH AND LATE APRIL; THE NORTHWEST REGION HAS SEEN THE SLOWEST INCREASE IN CLAIMS IN THE STATE SINCE EARLY APRIL.
TWENTY-TWO PERCENT OF ROSEAU COUNTY WORKERS HAD FILED UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS, THE FIFTH HIGHEST IN MINNESOTA.
KITTSON COUNTY HAD THE SIXTH LOWEST PERCENTAGE OF CLAIMS, AT ABOUT SIX PERCENT.

 

MINNESOTA SENATE DFL’ERS ARE PUSHING FOR A BONDING BILL, THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN NO HEARINGS IN THE STATE SENATE.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, THIS WEEK, UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED A RESOLUTION ASKING GOVERNOR TIM WALZ TO RE-OPEN NON-CRITICAL BUSINESSES WHEN THEY HAVE PREPARED AND POSTED AN ON-SITE PREPAREDNESS PLAN, PER MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND C/D/C GUIDELINES.
THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL PASSED A SIMILAR RESOLUTION MONDAY.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, THIS WEEK, APPROVED A PUBLIC HEARING LATER THIS MONTH ON A RE-ZONING AND CONDITIONAL USE REQUEST BY CARY OLSON;
TO ALLOW A SMALL SCALE RETAIL BUSINESS IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD.
OLSON AND WIFE JENNIFER ARE PLANNING A RETAIL BAKERY IN THE CENTER STREET BUILDING THAT ONCE HOUSED THE EAST SIDE GROCERY.

 

THE FISHING SEASON STARTS SATURDAY IN MINNESOTA, AND BASED ON LICENSE SALES, IT COULD BE A BUSIER THAN NORMAL OPENER.
