AUTHORITIES RECOVERED A FEMALE BODY FROM A SUBMERGED CAR IN THE RED LAKE RIVER IN CROOKSTON YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. THE CAR WAS SPOTTED FLOATING IN THE RIVER BEFORE IT SANK. THE CROOKSTON FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT A BOAT IN THE RIVER AND POLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE LOCATED THE CAR USING A DRONE. THE VICTIM’S IDENTITY HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED.

 

ALTRU HEALTH SYSTEM HELD A CEREMONIAL GROUNDBREAKING FOR IT’S $305 MILLION HOSPITAL LAST NIGHT. CONSTRUCTION ON THE BUILDING BEGAN IN LATE APRIL. THIS NEW HOSPITAL COMES AFTER ALTRU LOST IT’S MAIN CLINIC DUE TO STRUCTURAL DEFICIENCIES IN 2017. THE NEW HOSPITAL WILL BE COMPLETED IN EARLY 2022, BUT WON’T BE FUNCTIONAL UNTIL LATER THAT YEAR.

 

ABOUT A DOZEN LABOR UNION WORKERS ON THE EXPANSION PROJECT AT DIGIKEY IN THIEF RIVER FALLS GATHERED YESTERDAY TO PROTEST WHAT THEY CALL UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICES BY MCSHANE CONSTRUCTION. LATINO WORKERS HAVE SAID THEY ARE BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST, AND WORKERS HAVE CLAIMED THEY HAVE BEEN SHORTED ON HOURS AND VICTIMS OF WAGE THEFT. NONE OF THE PROTESTERS PRESENT WERE FROM MILLENIUM CONCRETE, WHO IS CONTRACTED ON THIS JOB.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  THIS WEEK,  ACCEPTED TWELVE HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS IN DONATIONS FOR THE RIVERVIEW PARK GAZEBO CONCERT FUND. THOSE DONATIONS ARE FROM KARL MANUFACTURING SOLUTIONS,  CITIZENS STATE BANK,  BORDER STATE BANK,  LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER,  RICK AND PAM HETTEEN,  AND THE OSEID  (OH-side)  FAMILY.
