AMERICAN CRYSTAL SUGAR UNION EMPLOYEES VOTED TO REJECT A FOUR-YEAR LABOR DEAL TO REPLACE TEH FIVE YEAR DEAL THAT EXPIRES AUGUST 1 OF THIS YEAR. THE NEW AGREEMENT WOULD HAVE OFFERED A 17% PAY INCREASE OVER FOUR YEARS. REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE UNION AND COMPANY BOTH SAID THAT NO STRIKE VOTE IS IMMINENT AND THE COMPANY DOES NOT PLAN TO LOCK OUT WORKERS. THE COMPANY HAS SEVEN LOCATIONS, INCLUDING EAST GRAND FORKS, MOORHEAD, AND DRAYTON. THERE WAS A LOCKOUT THAT LASTED 22 MONTHS FROM 2011 TO 2013.

THE TWO OTHER OFFICERS INVOLVED IN GEORGE FLOYD’S DEATH WERE SENTENCED YESTERDAY. TOU THAO WAS GIVEN A 3.5 YEAR SENTENCE, WHILE J. ALEXANDER KEUNG WAS GIVEN SENTENCE OF 3 YEARS. THAT IS SLIGHTLY MORE THAN THOMAS LANE RECEIVED, BUT SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN DEREK CHAUVIN. THE JUDGE SET THEIR DAY FOR SURRENDER TO FEDERAL AUTHORITIES AS OCTOBER 4.

OPENING DAY FOR THE MINNESOTA STATE FAIR IS LESS THAN A MONTH AWAY, AND THE FAIR IS LOOKING TO FILL SOME 1200 JOB OPENINGS FOR TICKETS SELLERS, TICKET TAKERS, PARKING ATTENDANTS, BARN ATTENDANTS AND MORE.

LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER AND ALTRU CLINIC, ALONG WITH POLICE DEPARTMENTS IN ROSEAU, WARRROAD AND ROSEAU COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT ARE SPONSORING A MEDICATION TAKE BACK DAY ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. ANY UNUSED, EXPIRED, AND UNWANTED MEDICATIONS CAN BE DROPPED AT THE WARROAD PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING, ROSEAU CITY CENTER, AND GREENBUSH FIRE HALL BETWEEN THE HOURS OF NOON AND 4 PM.

A GROUP CALLED HOWLING FOR WOLVES IS OFFERING FARMERS EXTRA CASH IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO CALL IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO DO TRAPPING, IN THEIR EFFORT TO REDUCE PREDATION ON LIVESTOCK AT NORTHERN MINNESOTA FARMS AND RANCHES. IF A CALF OR COW ARE VERIFIED TO HAVE BEEN KILLED BY WOLVES, THE GROUP WOULD PAY THAT FARMER ANYWHERE FROM $600 TO $750 AS LONG AS THEY DON’T CALL IN THE FEDS TO TRAP OR KILL THE WOLF.

A LOCAL TALENT CONTEST TAKES THE PLACE OF THURSDAY NIGHT CONCERTS AT ROSEAU’S RIVERVIEW PARK GAZEBO TONIGHT, IT WILL BE FOLLOWED BY A FREE MOVIE AT THE ROSO THEATRE AT 8:00. DURING THE CONTEST, LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER WILL SERVE FOOD AS A FUNDRAISER FOR ROSEAU MANOR ACTIVITIES.

Public visitation for Sidney W. Joslyn of Warroad, MN will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 4-8 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad, MN.
Sidney passed away at the age of 66.
