THE BUSH CAR RACES WILL BE FEATURED TONIGHT ON THE GRANDSTAND AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY FAIR. SMOKEY THE BEAR WILL BE ON HAND IN THE DNR BUILDING FROM 3:00-5:00, A SECOND PRELIMINARY ROUND FOR THE KIDS POWER WHEEL DERBY STARTS AT 2:00.TOMORROW THE 4-H BLUE RIBBON LIVESTOCK AUCTION WILL BE HELD AT 1:00, AND THE KIDS PEDAL TRACTOR PULL STARTS AT 1:00 ALSO.

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS WILL TAKE PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING A LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX OF .5%, ON AUGUST 10TH AT 9:00 AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY COURTHOUSE. THE REVENUE FROM THAT SALES TAX CAN ONLY BE USED ON TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS IN THE COUNTY.

 

THE MARSHALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE RELEASED A STATEMENT DISCUSSING THE ARREST OF 19-YEAR OLD JULIO CLAUSEN, IN CONNECTION TO A KIDNAPPING OF A 12-YEAR OLD AND 14-YEAR OLD GIRL IN STEPHEN. ACCORDING TO THE RELEASE, THE GIRLS WERE FORCED INTO HIS CAR AROUND 5 A.M. ON JULY 10TH AT THE CITY PARK. THE CAR WAS PURSUED BY A GROUP OF FRIENDS FOR NEARLY 20 MILES, BEFORE THE GIRLS WERE EVENTUALLY DROPPED OFF ALONG HIGHWAY 75 NEAR WARREN. CLAUSEN WAS ARRESTED SHORTY AFTER. HE SAYS HE HAD BEEN CHATTING WITH THE GIRLS ON SNAPCHAT, AND DECIDED TO DRIVE NEARLY 150 MILES TO COME MEET THEM, BY TRACKING THEM IN THE APPS MAP.

 

GRAND FORKS, EAST GRAND FORKS, AND THIEF RIVER FALLS ARE AMONG CITIES ASKING RESIDENTS TO RESTRICT NON-ESSENTIAL WATER USAGE.

GOVERNOR WALZ TODAY WILL VISIT A FARM IN POLK COUNTY TO DISCUSS THE IMPACT THE DROUGHT IS HAVING ON FARMERS. HE’LL BE JOINED BY MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF AG COMMISSIONER THOM PETERSEN.

 

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR DAVID DOKKEN OF NEW ULM, AND FORMERLY OF ROSEAU, WILL BE HELD TOMORROW (11 AM) AT LAKE ROAD CHAPEL IN BAUDETTE. DAVID DOKKEN PASSED AWAY IN DECEMBER AT THE AGE OF 77.

YESTERDAY, THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY ANNOUNCED THAT NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVEL BY CANADIANS INTO THE U.S. WILL REMAIN BLOCKED UNTIL AUGUST 21ST, AND STILL HAVE THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING EXTENDED BEYOND THAT. THIS COMES TWO DAYS AFTER CANADIAN OFFICIALS ANNOUNCED THAT FULLY VACCINATED AMERICANS COULD CROSS THE BORDER INTO CANADA BEGINNING AUGUST 9TH.

 

OFFICIALS ARE SAYING THAT THEY EXPECT THAT THE WORST OF THE WILDFIRE SMOKE CAUSING PROBLEMS IN MINNESOTA WILL BE MOSTLY BEHIND US AFTER TODAY. THERE WILL LIKELY STILL BE SOME AIR QUALITY ALERTS IN PARTS OF THE STATE, BUT CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO IMPROVE GOING FORWARD.

 

HUNTING SEASONS IN MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED AND REMAIN MOSTLY UNCHANGED. THERE IS AN EARLY TEAL-ONLY DUCK HUNTING SEASON THAT STARTS SEPTEMBER 1, WHICH IS ONE OF FEW CHANGES. BEAR SEASON STARTS SEPTEMBER 1, RUFFED GROUSE AND ARCHERY DEER SEPT 18, DUCKS AND GEESE SEPT 25, TURKEY OCT 2, FIREARMS DEER SEASON ON NOVEMBER 6TH.
