ON DECEMBER 21, CANADA REINSTATED THE NEED FOR CANADIAN TRAVELERS TO SHOW A NEGATIVE PCR COVID TEST IN ORDER TO RE-ENTER THE COUNTRY AFTER COMING TO THE UNITED STATES, EVEN IF THAT TRIP WAS LESS THAN 72 HOURS. THAT CAME JUST SHY OF ONE MONTH SINCE THEY HAD LIFTED THAT REQUIREMENT. A RELEASE FROM THE PUBLIC HEALTH AGENCY OF CANADA SAID IT WAS DUE TO THE SPREAD OF THE OMICRON VARIANT. CANADIAN TOURISM MINISTER TOLD BUSINESSES IN THETOURISM SECTOR THAT THEY MAY NEED TO RELY ON DOMESTIC TRAVELERS UNTIL THE THIRD QUARTER OF 2022, AND MAY NOT SEE A REGULAR RETURN OF TOURISTS UNTIL 2023.

BY A FOUR TO ONE VOTE, THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD APPROVED TWENTY TOBACCO LICENSES FOR 2022.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD HAS APPROVED APPROPRIATION REQUESTS FOR NEXT YEAR TOTALING THREE HUNDRED SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS. THAT’S FOR THINGS LIKE THE PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN THE COUNTY, AND THE ROSEAU COUNTY MUSEUM; AND REPRESENTS AN APPROXIMATE EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLAR INCREASE OVER THE CURRENT YEAR.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD RESOLVED TO SUPPORT THE ROSEAU/ LAKE OF THE WOODS SPORTSMANS CLUB’S REQUEST FOR STATE FUNDING FOR AN OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLE TRAIL. THE CLUB IS ASKING FOR MORE THAN FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE CLUB-OWNED RAILBED BETWEEN ROSEAU AND WARROAD.

A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL FOR WILLIAM J. SHAUGABAY OF WARROAD WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY (2 PM) AT ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN WARROAD. VISITATION WILL BE TOMORROW (5-8 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN WARROAD. INTERMENT WILL BE HELD AT A LATER DATE. WILLIAM SHAUGABAY WAS 71.

A MEMORIAL MASS FOR MARSHALL KUKOWSKI OF GREENBUSH WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY (10:30 AM) AT BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH IN GREENBUSH. VISITATION WILL BE TOMORROW (AFTER 6:00) AT THE CHURCH WITH A PRAYER SERVICE AT 7:00 AND HOLY ROSARY PRECEDING. VISITATION WILL ALSO BE ONE HOUR PRIOR TO FRIDAY. INTERMENT SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CEMETERY AT A LATER DATE. MARSHALL KUKOWSKI WAS 79.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR RAYMOND JOSEPH GEFROH OF WARROAD WILL BE HELD MONDAY, JANUARY 3RD (10 AM) AT ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, WITH VISITATION ONE HOUR PRIOR. RAY PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER ON DECEMBER 17TH. HE WAS 82.
