A VISITATION FOR ALIDA KOMPELIEN OF ROSEAU IS TOMORROW AFTERNOON   (2-4 PM)  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.  ALIDA KOMPELIEN WAS  90.

ABOUT THIRTY PEOPLE ATTENDED YESTERDAY’S  TOWN HALL MEETING AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER, WITH STATE REPRESENTATIVE DAN FABIAN AND STATE SENATOR MARK JOHNSON. FABIAN AND JOHNSON HAD BEEN IN HALLOCK AND GREENBUSH EARLIER YESTERDAY. THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION ENDS IN JUST OVER FOUR WEEKS,  WITH THE DFL CONTROLLED HOUSE AND REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED SENATE SEEMINGLY FAR APART YESTERDAY’S DISCUSSION INCLUDED TOPICS LIKE ENBRIDGE LINE THREE,  THE PROPOSED GAS TAX INCREASE AND A-T-V ACCESS AT HAYES LAKE STATE PARK.

A USED BOOK SALE AT CLEARSPRING MALL IN STEINBACH, MANITOBA NEXT WEEK  (Wednesday through Saturday)  IS A FUNDRAISER FOR AN EAST BORDERLAND PERSONAL CARE HOME  AND SENIORS HOUSING PHASE THREE.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  THIS WEEK,  RECOGNIZED SUPER ONE FOODS AS THIS YEAR’S WINNER OF THE DISTRICT’S   “FRIENDS OF EDUCATION”  AWARD.

ROSEAU ATHLETICS DIRECTOR IVAN HIRST IS LOOKING FOR A HEAD FOOTBALL AND HEAD WRESTLING COACH,AFTER THE RESIGNATIONS OF JEREMY LINDEMANN AND AARON ROSE; AND SAYS HE’S LOOKING FOR COMMUNITY INTEREST …. SEVERAL OF THE CURRENT ASSISTANT COACHES IN EACH SPORT HAVE APPLIED FOR THE HEAD COACHING JOB.

ROSEAU’S MAYOR,  JEFF PELOWSKI;  AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR,  TODD PETERSON –  WERE IN WASHINGTON,  DC LAST WEEK MEETING WITH CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION AGENCY OFFICIALS ON THEIR DECISION TO REDUCE HOURS AT THE ROSEAU  (AND LANCASTER)  PORTS OF ENTRY. PELOWSKI SAYS HE’S OPTIMISTIC. C.B.P.  WAS GIVEN UNTIL MAY FIRST FOR A REPORT ON THE RATIONALE BEHIND THEIR DECISION, BY THE CHAIR OF THE HOMELAND SECURITY COMMITTEE. ROSEAU OFFICIALS WANT THE CLOSING HOUR AT THE PORT NORTH OF THE CITY RETURNED TO MIDNIGHT;  IT’S CURRENTLY EIGHT P.M.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  APPROVED A MAY  3RD  RAFFLE ON BEHALF OF THE LAKE OF THE WOODS RUFFED GROUSE SOCIETY.

A COMMUNITY GOOD FRIDAY WORSHIP SERVICE,  PRESENTED BY THE ROSEAU MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION,  IS TOMORROW  (Noon)  AT MOE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU.

JOE LAURIN PRESENTS ON LAKE OF THE WOODS TODAY  (11:45 a.m.)  AS PART OF THE ROSEAU LUNCH AT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY SERIES.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR JANICE MELBY OF GREENBUSH ARE SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT ONE  AT UNITED FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN GREENBUSH.  VISITATION IS TOMORROW EVENING  (5-7 PM)  WITH A SEVEN O’CLOCK PRAYER SERVICE AT THE CHURCH. JANICE  MELBY  WAS  74.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SAYS NEARLY NINE THOUSAND MILES OF STATE ROADWAYS WERE CLEANED UP LAST YEAR BY VOLUNTEERS WITH THE ADOPT A HIGHWAY PROGRAM. THIRTY-FIVE HUNDRED VOLUNTEER GROUPS PICKED UP LITTER ALONG THOSE HIGHWAYS AS PART OF A PROGRAM THAT’S EXISTED SINCE  1990. MINN-DOT SAYS THERE ARE THREE HUNDRED SECTIONS OF HIGHWAY AVAILABLE FOR VOLUNTEERS IN NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA.
