THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ROSEAU COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY IS TOMORROW AFTERNOON  (1:45 PM)  AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER; FOLLOWED BY A PERFORMANCE BY THE IRISH DUO  “THE LOST FORTY”.BRIAN MILLER,  FROM BEMIDJI,  SAYS THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT IRISH CONNECTION IN MINNESOTA ….

A STATEWIDE TORNADO DRILL SCHEDULED TODAY HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

ROSEAU MAYOR JEFF PELOWSKI AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR TODD PETERSON WERE IN WASHINGTON, D.C. YESTERDAY; MEETING WITH U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION ON THE REDUCED HOURS AT THE ROSEAU PORT OF ENTRY.  THE  D.C.  MEETING WAS ARRANGED BY CONGRESSMAN COLLIN PETERSON,  AFTER A MARCH MEETING WITH  C.B.P.  IN ROSEAU YIELDED NO POSITIVE RESULTS.

A COMMUNITY GOOD FRIDAY WORSHIP SERVICE IS NEXT FRIDAY  (April 19/Noon)  AT MOE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU.

A  COMMUNITY-WIDE YOUTH CONFERENCE WAS HELD LAST WEEKEND AT ROSEAU’S FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH ….TIM PRICE IS THE YOUTH MINISTER AT THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH.

CONNIE JOHNSON PRESENTS A CHINA EXPERIENCE TODAY IN THE VOYAGEUR ROOM AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER,IN THE FIRST OF THE SPRING LUNCH AT THE LIBRARY TRAVEL SERIES OFFERINGS BY THE ROSEAU PUBLIC LIBRARY.

FORMER WARROAD POLICE CHIEF KEITH WINGER HAS A BOOK SIGNING THIS EVENING  (5:30 PM)  AT THE WARROAD PUBLIC LIBRARY. HIS BOOK,  CALLED  “BADGES AND GUITARS”,  RECOUNTS HIS LIFE IN MUSIC AND LAW ENFORCEMENT.

A FUNDRAISER FOR THE WARROAD SCHOOL BACKPACK PROGRAM IS THIS EVENING  (4:30 TO 6:30 PM)  AT THE WARROAD HIGH SCHOOL COMMONS.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL DISTRICT IS EXPECTING JUST A SINGLE DIGIT INCREASE IN HEALTH INSURANCE COSTS FOR NEXT YEAR. ROSEAU SCHOOL EMPLOYEES HAVEN’T HAD A HEALTH INSURANCE INCREASE THE PAST TWO YEARS,  BUT SAW A SIXTY PERCENT INCREASE FROM 2013 TO 2017.

THE MINNESOTA LEGISLATURE IS MOVING FORWARD TELEPHONE/CPR BILLS THAT WOULD MANDATE  9-1-1 OPERATORS BE TRAINED TO COACH PEOPLE CALLING IN A CARDIAC ARREST.    REPUBLICAN STATE SENATOR DAN HALL OF BURNSVILLE SAYS THE BILLS WOULD PROVIDE FUNDING FOR THAT TRAINING …

A CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF JOANNE YON OF FOUNTAIN HILLS, ARIZONA (AND FORMERLY OF ROSEAU) WILL BE HELD THIS SUMMER IN BEMIDJI. JOANNE YON WAS  80.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN PLACE FOR ROSEAU COUNTY THROUGH MIDDAY TOMORROW. PETE SPEICHER, AT THE GRAND FORKS NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE,  SAYS THE BLIZZARD THAT STRUCK WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA YESTERDAY IS MOVING NORTHWARD …. SPEICHER SAYS ROSEAU COUNTY COULD SEE TWO TO SIX INCHES OF SNOW TONIGHT,  ALONG WITH GUSTY EAST/NORTHEAST WINDS.

THE ROSEAU RIVER,  IN THE CITY,  WAS AT ABOUT ELEVEN FEET THIS MORNING.  THAT’S ABOUT SIX FEET BELOW TUESDAY’S CREST,  AT AROUND SEVENTEEN FEET.

THE POLARIS PLANT IN SPIRIT LAKE, IOWA WAS EVACUATED YESTERDAY MORNING BECAUSE OF A FIRE.       NOBODY WAS HURT,  AND FIREFIGHTERS WERE ON THE SCENE UNTIL EARLY AFTERNOON.   THE FIRE WAS APPARENTLY CAUSED BY SPARKS FROM THE REMOVAL OF A PAINT BOOTH NEAR A CHIMNEY.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  THIS WEEK,  APPROVED THE HIRE OF CUSTODIAN JAMES SMITS;  HE REPLACES ERIC HAGEN ….  AND THE BOARD ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF HIGH SCHOOL SECRETARY BRITTNEY EDWARDS.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  THIS WEEK,  APPROVED A PAYROLL SOFTWARE PURCHASE;  TO REPLACE AN  “ANTIQUATED”  AS-400  PAYROLL PLATFORM.
