THE  33RD  ANNUAL BANQUET OF THE ROSEAU RIVER CHAPTER OF THE MINNESOTA DEER HUNTERS ASSOCIATION IS THIS EVENING AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER.

CHAPTER PRESIDENT STU WESTON SAYS THEY’LL TYPICALLY HAVE SIXTY TO EIGHTY YOUNGSTERS  (CALLED FORKHORNS)  AT THE BANQUET.

 

A SUMMARY OF AGRICULTURAL TRENDS FROM UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA EXTENSION SHOWS CONTINUED DOWNWARD PRESSURE ON FARM INCOMES  “WITH LITTLE HINT OF A POSITIVE PROGNOSIS FOR THE FUTURE”.

SCOTT JOHNSON,  FROM THE ROSEAU SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT,  MET WITH THE COUNTY BOARD LAST WEEK –   SEEKING A SIXTEEN THOUSAND DOLLAR APPROPRIATION INCREASE  FOR  2020.

S.W.C.D.  STAFF IS TASKED WITH BUFFER LAW COMPLIANCE CHECKS,  AMONG OTHER THINGS.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  LAST WEEK,  CONTINUED A PUBLIC HEARING ON A POSSIBLE ABATEMENT OF A COMMERCIAL BUILDING AT THE CORNER OF MAIN AVENUE AND HIGHWAY ELEVEN.   THE CITY’S BUILDING INSPECTOR SAID WORK DONE BY KARL NELSON IS ADEQUATE,  IF MAINTENANCE IS ONGOING.   NELSON SAID PAINTING THE BUILDING WON’T HAPPEN UNTIL NEXT SPRING;  THE COUNCIL GAVE HIM UNTIL JUNE  30TH NEXT YEAR TO COMPLETE THE WORK.

 

NINE ROAD WEATHER INFORMATION SYSTEMS WERE INSTALLED IN AUGUST AT A NUMBER OF NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA LOCATIONS,  INCLUDING ON HIGHWAY ELEVEN NEAR WARROAD;  ON HIGHWAY 59 NEAR LANCASTER;  AND ON HIGHWAY ONE NEAR GOODRIDGE.

THE  RWIS SENSOR STATION COLLECTS WEATHER DATA LIKE VISIBILITY AND PAVEMENT CONDITIONS;

THAT INFORMATION GOES TO THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION,  THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND MINNESOTA’S  5-1-1 SYSTEM.

 

SECOND HALF TAXES ON ALL REAL ESTATE AND PERSONAL PROPERTY,  EXCLUDING FARM CLASSIFICATIONS AND MOBILE HOMES,  ARE DUE BY TOMORROW AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY TREASURER’S OFFICE.

PAYMENTS ARE ALSO ACCEPTED VIA THE ROSEAU COUNTY WEBSITE                      ( www.co.roseau.mn.us  ).

 

A TAILGATE FUNDRAISER FOR THE WARROAD SCHOOL BACKPACK FOOD PROGRAM IS WEDNESDAY EVENING AT THE GARDENS ARENA,  PRIOR TO THE WARRIORS’  FOOTBALL GAME WITH FRAZEE.

 

A RECENT STUDY SAYS THE U.S.  IS LOSING IT’S NATURAL LANDSCAPE AT A RAPID RATE.   BIOLOGIST BRETT DICKSON SAYS MINNESOTA IS 13TH AMONG THE LOWER 48 STATES AT THE RATE OF NATURAL LANDS LOSS, AND NORTH DAKOTA TOPS THAT LIST.

DICKSON SAYS MINNESOTA LOST 700 THOUSAND ACRES OF NATURAL LANDS BETWEEN  2001 AND  2017;   ABOUT 400 THOUSAND OF THOSE ACRES TO URBANIZATION.

 

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR KENNY VONGSALY OF WARROAD ARE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT ONE  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.

KENNY VONGSALY WAS  74.

 

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR NORBERT FAST OF WARROAD IS FRIDAY MORNING AT ELEVEN AT THE WARROAD BAPTIST CHURCH.   VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR.

NORBERT FAST  WAS  86.

 

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR RHENA STORO OF ROSEAU ARE NEXT MONDAY  (October 21)  AFTERNOON AT THREE AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.   VISITATION IS SUNDAY EVENING  (5-7 PM)  WITH A SEVEN O’CLOCK TIME FOR SHARING AT HELGESON’S.

RHENA  STORO  WAS  51.

 

MEMORIAL SERVICES ARE PENDING FOR JOY WYNNE OF BADGER.    JOY WYNNE WAS   69.

 

CASS COUNTY  (NORTH DAKOTA)  IS INVESTIGATING ALLEGATIONS OF A HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HEAVY CASELOADS  IN THEIR CHILD PROTECTION UNIT,  WITH THE COUNTY’S SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT.  WORKERS ARE HANDLING 30 TO 40 CASES.   ROSEAU NATIVE CHIP AMMERMAN IS CASS COUNTY’S SOCIAL SERVICES DIRECTOR.

 

HIGHWAY ELEVEN JUST WEST OF THE INDUS SCHOOL WAS REDUCED TO ONE LANE OVER THE WEEKEND,  DUE TO WASHED OUT PAVEMENT.  REPAIRS ARE UNDERWAY.
