THE ROSEAU LAW LIBRARY IS STARTING A FIFTH YEAR OF A PARTNERSHIP WITH LEGAL SERVICES OF NORTHWEST MINNESOTA.

A STAFFED  SELF-HELP CLINIC PROVIDES ACCESS TO THE DISTRICT COURT SYSTEM, AND USAGE OF THAT CLINIC INCREASED TO SEVENTY PEOPLE IN 2019  (FROM  54 IN 2018).

ANNE HOEFGEN,  WITH LEGAL SERVICES OF NORTHWEST MINNESOTA,  SAYS A STAFFED LEGAL SELF-HELP CLINIC IS SOMEWHAT UNUSUAL IN THE REGION.

ROSEAU COUNTY’S SELF-HELP CLINIC IS OPEN TWICE A MONTH,  USING RETIRED LOCAL ATTORNEY JOHN CARTER.

 

THE CITY OF ROSEAU AND THE ROSEAU SCHOOL DISTRICT HAVE HAD A CITY/SCHOOL COMMITTEE FOR SEVERAL DECADES,

TO ADDRESS AREAS OF COMMON INTEREST  (LIKE GILBERTSON BASEBALL FIELD).

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD RECENTLY APPOINTED THOR DIDRIKSON AND JODEE HAUGEN THEIR REPRESENTATIVES ON THAT COMMITTEE.

 

THE MINNESOTA  D.N.R.   HAS A WORKSHOP ON DEER MANAGEMENT WEDNESDAY EVENING  (January 29/  6-9 pm)  AT RAINY RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN INTERNATIONAL FALLS;   AND WITH A SATELLITE WORKSHOP LOCATION AT THE  D.N.R. OFFICE IN WARROAD.

BARB KELLER IS THE DNR’S  BIG GAME PROGRAM COORDINATOR.

ANOTHER WORKSHOP IS THURSDAY EVENING IN THIEF RIVER FALLS.

 

THE ROSEAU RIVER WATERSHED HAS AN INFORMATIONAL MEETING FEBRUARY 13TH  ON THE HAY CREEK SUB-WATERSHED.

MEANWHILE,  WATERSHED DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR TRACY HALSTENSGARD SAYS THEY ARE READY FOR WHAT COULD BE A WET SPRING.

 

THE CITY OF ROSEAU IS ASKING HOMEOWNERS AND BUSINESS OWNERS IN A TARGET AREA NEAR DOWNTOWN ROSEAU TO INDICATE WHETHER THEY’RE INTERESTED IN A  DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GRANT PROGRAM FOR BUILDING REHABILITATION.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR MARILYN  FLATEN  OF ROSEAU IS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT TWO  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.   VISITATION IS THURSDAY EVENING  (5-7 PM) WITH A SEVEN O’CLOCK PRAYER SERVICE AT THE FUNERAL HOME.

ROSEAU AND BADGER WON SUBSECTION ONE-ACT PLAY COMPETITIONS SATURDAY TO ADVANCE TO THIS  SATURDAY’S  SECTION 8A COMPETITION IN CROOKSTON.

LAKE OF THE WOODS ALSO ADVANCES AS THE SUBSECTION 32 RUNNERUP.

OTHER SUBSECTION WINNERS WERE CROOKSTON AND SACRED HEART.

 

THREE CANDIDATES HAVE BEEN FORWARDED TO GOVERNOR TIM WALZ FOR A VACANCY IN THE 9TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT,  WHICH INCLUDES ROSEAU COUNTY.

THE THREE ARE  JEANINE BRAND,  WHO HAS WORKED IN COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICES IN CLEARWATER,  CLAY AND CASS COUNTIES ….

COREY HARBOTT,  AN ASSISTANT PUBLIC DEFENDER IN CROOKSTON ….

AND SEAMUS DUFFY,  THE PENNINGTON COUNTY ATTORNEY.    DUFFY SPENT ELEVEN YEARS AS AN ASSISTANT PUBLIC DEFENDER IN NORTHWEST MINNESOTA  (INCLUDING IN ROSEAU COUNTY).

 

MINNESOTA SENATORS AMY KLOBUCHAR AND TINA SMITH HAVE SENT A LETTER TO U.S. TRANSPORTATION SECRETARY ELAINE CHAO  ASKING FOR FEDERAL GRANT ASSISTANCE,  BROADBAND CONNECTIVITY,  FREIGHT MOVEMENT AND NON-MOTORIZED MOBILITY FOR RURAL MINNESOTA.
