THIS IS THE SECOND WEEK OF A TWO WEEK WINDOW FOR SMALL BUSINESSES AND NONPROFITS IN ROSEAU COUNTY TO APPLY FOR GRANTS THROUGH A STATE-FUNDED PROGRAM TO ADDRESS ECONOMIC HARDSHIPS CREATED BY THE COVID PANDEMIC.

ROSEAU COUNTY HAS ABOUT THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS AVAILABLE,  WITH MORE THAN DOUBLE THAT AMOUNT IN REQUESTS RECEIVED THE FIRST SEVERAL DAYS OF THE APPLICATION PERIOD.

THE COUNTY DISTRIBUTED JUST OVER SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS IN  “CARES”  ACT FUNDING IN 2020;  BUT COUNTY COORDINATOR  JEFF PELOWSKI SAYS THERE IS GREATER INTEREST IN THIS PROGRAM.

APPLICATIONS FOR THE PROGRAM WILL BE TAKEN THROUGH FRIDAY.

APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY WEBSITE                       (www.co.roseau.mn.us) OR FROM THE COORDINATOR’S OFFICE ( 218 463-4248 ).

 

A WARROAD-BASED ORGANIZATION CALLED  “HELPP” IS IN IT’S FIFTH YEAR OF HELPING WARROAD SCHOOL DISTRICT RESIDENTS FACING FINANCIAL EMERGENCIES OR OTHER HARDSHIPS.

THE NONPROFIT HAS GIVEN OUT MORE THAN  118  THOUSAND DOLLARS SINCE  2016,  MOSTLY FOR MEDICAL TRAVEL.

IT’S  2021   MISSION IS TO HELP CITIES LIKE BAUDETTE AND ROSEAU ESTABLISH SIMILAR PHILANTHROPIC GROUPS.

THE CITY OF ROSEAU STARTS  2021 WITH  SEVEN-POINT-EIGHT-FIVE MILLION DOLLARS IN RESERVES.

THE CITY HAS NOT RAISED IT’S PROPERTY TAX LEVY FOR AT LEAST A DOZEN YEARS.

 

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SAID ROSEAU COUNTY HAD TEN NEW CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES IN THE PAST WEEK,   AFTER THIRTEEN NEW CASES THE PREVIOUS WEEK.

THAT TWO WEEK TOTAL IS THE LOWEST IN THE COUNTY SINCE SEPTEMBER.

ROSEAU COUNTY HAS  1664 CORONAVIRUS CASES SINCE LAST APRIL,  AND SEVENTEEN DEATHS.

 

7TH GRADER RUBY OSWEILER WON FRIDAY’S ROSEAU SCHOOL SPELLING BEE, WITH   6TH  GRADER ABBY SWANSON SECOND.

RUBY OSWEILER NEXT COMPETES IN A VIRTUAL REGIONAL SPELLING BEE.

 

THE GOLDEN GOPHER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM PLAYS AT PENN STATE TODAY.

FORMER ROSEAU RAM KATIE BOROWICZ GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL EARLY,  AND JOINED THE GOPHERS’ PROGRAM LAST MONTH.

UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA ASSISTANT COACH KELLY CURRY SAYS THE YOUNGSTER HAS MADE AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT.

BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC,  KATIE BOROWICZ WILL BE ALLOWED TO PLAY FIVE YEARS OF COLLEGE BASKETBALL.

 

ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS THOR DIDRIKSON AND JODEE HAUGEN HAVE BEEN RE-APPOINTED TO THE CITY/SCHOOL COMMITTEE;  MICKY HULST TO THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION ADVISORY COUNCIL;  AND TIM FUGLEBERG  TO THE MINNESOTA SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION.

 

A  SIXTEENTH ANNUAL EMERGING FARMERS CONFERENCE  IS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY IN A VIRTUAL FORMAT.

A GRAVESIDE SERVICE FOR JOHN MONEY OF HALLOCK IS PLANNED FOR THIS SUMMER,  WITH BURIAL AT GREENWOOD CEMETERY IN HALLOCK.
