NORTHWEST REGIONAL LIBRARY DIRECTOR JIM TROJANOWSKI IS ASKING THE CITY OF ROSEAU FOR A ONE PERCENT INCREASE IN FUNDING FOR 2022; THAT WOULD AMOUNT TO 559 ADDITIONAL DOLLARS. TROJANOWSKI SAID THE STATE’S CONTRIBUTION TO THE FIVE COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM HASN’T INCREASED IN A DOZEN YEARS.

 

VISITOR RESTRICTIONS AT LIFECARE ROSEAU MANOR WERE LIFTED ON FRIDAY AFTER A TWO-WEEK RESTRICTION PERIOD.

 

THE US-CANADA BORDER IS NOW OPEN TO VACCINATED TRAVELERS, WHO CAN ALSO SHOW A NEGATIVE COVID-19 TEST WITHIN THE LAST 72 HOURS. THIS WEEK, LIFECARE PUBLIC HEALTH WILL BE PROVIDING FREE VAULT SALIVA TESTING AT THE 4-H BUILDING ON THE ROSEAU COUNTY FAIRGROUND, DAILY FROM 10:00-2:00, WITH NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED.

 

ON FRIDAY, WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE FIRST DAY OF A STRIKE BY CANADIAN BORDER WORKERS, THE TWO SIDES REACHED A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT THAT WILL KEEP THEM WORKING. OFFICIALS SAID THEY REACHED THAT AGREEMENT AFTER AN INTENSE FINAL ROUND OF NEGOTIATIONS THAT LASED MORE THAN 36 HOURS.

 

ROSEAU TEACHER AND COACH KEN HAYDEN HAS BEEN NAMED THE SCHOOL’S NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, AND NOW FORMER ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL JOE BRODERICK HAS BEEN NAMED HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL. THEY’LL REPLACE IVAN HIRST WHO JOINTLY HELD THOSE POSITIONS.

 

A NORTHWEST MINNESOTA ART COUNCIL EXHIBIT WILL BE LOCATED AT THE DISCOVERY AND DEVELOPMENT HUB IN DOWNTOWN WARROAD FROM AUGUST 13TH THROUGH 26TH. THERE WILL ALSO BE A RECEPTION AT ALLISON PARK ON THE 26TH HONORING AWARD WINNERS CONNIE NELSON, DONALD KAKAYGEESICK, AND ANNETHEA NOVACEK.

 

AS SUMMER BREAK NEARS AN END, THE ROSEAU COUNTY MUSEUM AND LIBRARY ARE TEAMING UP TO INVITE KIDS TO A “SUMMER SCOOP” EVENT ON AUGUST 25TH FROM 2:00-4:00. KIDS CAN BUILD THEIR OWN SUNDAE. THE EVENT IS FREE.

 

A LARGE GRASS FIRE WAS IGNITED ALONG INTERSTATE 29 NEAR GRAND FORKS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. AUTHORITIES SAY THAT FIRE WAS STARTED FROM SPARKS FROM A BLOWN TIRE. NO STRUCTURES WERE THREATENED AND TRAFFIC WAS MOSTLY UNAFFECTED.

 

JOHN WILLIAMS RETIRED LAST WEEK AS THE NORTHWEST REGION 1 WILDLIFE MANAGER FOR THE MINNESOTA DNR OFFICE IN BEMIDJI. HE HAD ALSO WORKED AT THIEF LAKE AND IN THIEF RIVER FALLS IN HIS MORE THAN 30 YEARS.
