A FUNDRAISER FOR THE WARROAD SCHOOL BACKPACK FOOD PROGRAM WILL BE HELD MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 THROUGH OCTOBER 1 AT LAKE OF THE WOODS COFFEE COMPANY IN WARROAD. DURING THAT WEEK THEY WILL DONATE A PORTION OF THEIR SALES TO THE BACKPACK PROGRAM, WHICH CURRENTLY SUPPLIES ROUGHLY 90 CHILDREN WITH EXTRA MEALS TO GET THEM THROUGH WEEKENDS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S FREE AT-HOME TEST PROGRAM FOR COVID-19 WAS SUSPENDED EARLIER THIS MONTH. YESTERDAY, GOVERNOR WALZ ANNOUNCED THAT MINNESOTANS CAN NOW PLACE A THIRD ORDER FOR FOUR ADDITIONAL FREE AT-HOME RAPID TESTS THROUGH A STATE ONLINE PROGRAM. IT CAN BE DONE BY VISITING MN.GOV/COVID19. IF YOU HAD NOT ORDERED THE PREVIOUS ROUNDS FROM THE FEDERAL PROGRAM, YOU COULD NOW GET THE WHOLE 12 TESTS FROM THIS PROGRAM.

AN EAST GRAND FORKS MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH SEVEN COUNTS OF FELONY CHILD PORNOGRAPHY POSSESSION. POLICE RECEIVED A CYBERTIP ON AUGUST 4TH, SUSPECTING DAVID DETWILER. ON TUESDAY, POLICE INITIATED A TRAFFIC STOP OF DETWILER AND HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY BASED ON AN AUGUST 12TH WARRANT FOR HIS ARREST, FOR FAILING TO APPEAR FOR A PROBATION HEARING. POLICE DOWNLOADED CONTENT FROM HIS CELLPHONE WHICH CONTAINED THE INAPPROPRIATE VIDEOS AND IMAGES.

A 40-YEAR OLD MAN WAS FOUND DEAD BY HIS CO-WORKERS AT A NORTHLAND CONSTRUCTION GRAVEL PIT, NEAR CLOQUET, ON WEDNESDAY. THE DECEASED WAS IDENTIFIED AS BRAD LEWIS WOJTYSIAK. THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE DEATH ARE BEING INVESTIGATED, ALTHOUGH CO-WORKERS SAID THE CONVEYOR WAS NOT RUNNING WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED.

A FEDERAL BILL, THE TEENS ACT, IS LOOKING TO EXPAND WORKABLE HOURS FOR AFFECTED TEENAGERS THAT WOULD SPAN FROM 7 AM TO 9 PM, AND INCREASE THE NUMBER OF HOURS THAT COULD BE WORKED DURING A SCHOOL WEEK TO 24. CURRENTLY, 14 AND 15 YEAR OLDS, ARE CAPPED AT 18 HOURS PER WEEK, AND CANNOT WORK PAST 7 PM ON SCHOOL NIGHTS.
