THE ROSEAU RIVER,  IN THE CITY,  IS EXPECTED TO RISE TO ABOUT SEVENTEEN AND A HALF FEET BY EARLY TOMORROW;  IT WAS AT ABOUT FOURTEEN FEET THIS MORNING.

THE RIVER HAS BEEN UP IN THE CITY FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS,  SINCE HEAVY RAINFALL ON THE 20TH AND 21ST OF SEPTEMBER CAUSED TO RISE TO MORE THAN EIGHTEEN FEET.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN PLACE FOR ROSEAU COUNTY,  ALTHOUGH FORECASTER DANIEL ROBINSON SAYS WE WON’T GET THE SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL AMOUNTS EXPECTED IN NORTH DAKOTA CITIES LIKE DEVILS LAKE AND JAMESTOWN.

ROBINSON SAYS THE RED RIVER VALLEY IS ON THE EDGE OF THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL.

 

MINNESOTA HAS THE FIFTH LOWEST RATE OF UNINSURED RESIDENTS IN THE NATION,  BEHIND MASSACHUSETTS,  VERMONT,  HAWAII AND RHODE ISLAND.  FOUR POINT FOUR PERCENT OF MINNESOTANS DON’T HAVE INSURANCE,  AS COMPARED WITH NEARLY EIGHTEEN PERCENT OF PEOPLE IN TEXAS.   NORTH DAKOTA IS  22ND AND  SOUTH DAKOTA  36TH ON THAT LIST.

 

 

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HAS ANNOUNCED FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION GRANTS TOTALLING TWENTY-SIX MILLION DOLLARS FOR FOURTEEN GREATER MINNESOTA AIRPORTS,

INCLUDING  NEARLY SIXTEEN MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL FALLS AIRPORT FOR AN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY,  RUNWAY RECONSTRUCTION AND AN APRON EXPANSION.

THE BAUDETTE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WILL GET JUST LESS THAN               SIXTY-SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR APRON REHABILITATION.

 

MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR ESTHER NYSTROM OF ROSEAU ARE NEXT SATURDAY  (October 19)  EVENING AT SEVEN AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.

ESTHER NYSTROM WAS  75.

 

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR HARVEY DALLAGER OF GREENBUSH IS TOMORROW MORNING AT ELEVEN  AT BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH OF GREENBUSH.   VISITATION IS THIS EVENING AFTER SIX, WITH A SEVEN O’CLOCK PRAYER SERVICE,  AT THE CHURCH;  AND AN HOUR PRIOR TO SERVICES TOMORROW.  BURIAL IS AT BETHEL CEMETERY.

HARVEY  DALLAGER WAS  75.

 

TAW CONNORS IS IN CONCERT TOMORROW NIGHT  (7 PM)  AT THE SPRAGUE,  MANITOBA COMMUNITY CENTRE.

HE’S THE SON OF CANADIAN MUSIC LEGEND STOMPIN TOM CONNORS, AND THE SHOW IS A TRIBUTE TO HIS DAD.

STOMPIN TOM CONNORS WROTE ABOUT CANADA IN MOST OF HIS SONGS,  LIKE “BUD THE SPUD”,   “THE HOCKEY SONG”  AND “SUDBURY SATURDAY NIGHT”.

 

THE  33RD ANNUAL MINNESOTA DEER HUNTERS BANQUET,  HOSTED BY THE ROSEAU RIVER CHAPTER OF  M.D.H.A.,  IS MONDAY EVENING THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER.

STU WESTON IS PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL CHAPTER;  HE SAYS THE DEER HUNTING FORECAST IS GOOD,  BUT WET.

TICKETS FOR MONDAY’S BANQUET ARE AVAILABLE FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS.

 

A FALL MEATBALL SUPPER IS SUNDAY EVENING  (4-7 PM)  AT FIRST UNITED LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU.

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  THIS WEEK,  APPROVED SEEKING A RURAL HEALTH NETWORK DEVELOPMENT GRANT.

THAT’S A ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR GRANT WHICH WOULD ALLOW THE COUNTY TO HIRE A COORDINATOR FOR IT’S COMMUNITY JUSTICE COORDINATING COMMITTEE.

 

THE ROSEAU AREA COMMUNITY FUND AND ROSEAU AREA EDUCATION FUND HAS GRANT MONEY AVAILABLE PROJECTS,  PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES THAT WOULD IMPROVED THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ROSEAU AREA RESIDENTS AND VISITORS.

THE DEADLINE FOR GRANT SUBMISSIONS IS OCTOBER 22ND.

THE CITY OF ROSEAU’S OPERATIONS COMMITTEE IS LOOKING AT PAY GRADES FOR IT’S EMPLOYEES.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR TODD PETERSON SAYS HIGHER PAID EMPLOYEES ARE ABOVE THE MARKET RATE,  WHILE LOWER PAID WORKERS ARE BELOW MARKET.

 

SECOND HALF TAXES ON REAL ESTATE AND PERSONAL PROPERTY,  EXCEPT FARM CLASSIFICATIONS AND MOBILE HOMES,  ARE DUE BY TUESDAY AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY TREASURER’S OFFICE.

FARM AND MOBILE HOME TAXES ARE DUE BY MID-NOVEMBER.

 

A REPORT FROM THE NONPROFIT GROUP  FIRST FOCUS ON CHILDREN SHOWS THE SHARE OF FEDERAL SPENDING ON KIDS WAS AT AN ALL-TIME LOW THIS FISCAL YEAR.   BRUCE LESLEY IS PRESIDENT OF THAT GROUP;  HE SAYS THE NATIONAL DEBT HAS BECOME A DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD FOR THE NATION’S CHILDREN.
