24 YEAR OLD ANNA NELSON OF ROSEAU WAS TAKEN TO LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER WITH NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES AFTER A TWO VEHICLE CRASH YESTERDAY EVENING (AT 6:20 PM) AT THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 11 AND 3RD STREET NORTHEAST IN ROSEAU. NELSON APPARENTLY BROADSIDED A VEHICLE DRIVEN BY 80 YEAR OLD ROBERT KVIEN OF ROSEAU THAT PULLED OUT FROM THE 3RD STREET STOP SIGN. KVIEN AND HIS PASSENGER, 81 YEAR OLD LORRAINE KVIEN, WERE NOT HURT.

 

LEGISLATION IN AN EMERGENCY SPENDING PACKAGE AT CONGRESS WOULD REQUIRE U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION TO RESTORE STAFFING LEVELS AT PORTS OF ENTRY ALONG THE U.S./CANADA BORDER (INCLUDING AT PORTS AT ROSEAU AND LANCASTER). THE U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE HELD A PUBLIC HEARING TUESDAY NIGHT IN BRAINERD ON THEIR PLAN TO LIFT PROTECTIONS FOR TIMBERWOLVES IN MINNESOTA. A REGIONAL DIRECTOR WITH THE FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE SAID THE REASON THE AGENCY KEEPS SPECIES ON THE ENDANGERED AND THREATENED LIST IS TO PROTECT THOSE SPECIES FROM GOING EXTINCT; THAT DIRECTOR, LORI NORDSTROM, SAID “WOLVES ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THAT”. SEVERAL ROSEAU COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ATTENDED THAT WOLF HEARING.

 

THE MINNESOTA D.N.R. WILL LAUNCH A TWO YEAR PILOT PROJECT TO OPEN THE MOOSE RIVER DIKE ROAD TO A-T-V TRAVEL. LOCAL RESIDENTS ASKED THE AGENCY FOR USE OF THAT DIKE ROAD AS A SAFER ALTERNATIVE TO RIDING ON DICK’S PARKWAY.
THE DIKE ROAD WILL BE OPEN FOR A-T-V RIDING FROM JULY 15TH THROUGH SEPTEMBER 15TH STARTING NEXT MONTH; AND CONTINUING NEXT SUMMER.

A RECENT STORY IN THE NORTHERN WATCH NEWSPAPER SAID THE THIEF RIVER FALLS CHILDCARE TASKFORCE IS CONCERNED ABOUT A DEFICIENCY IN INFANT AND TODDLER CHILDCARE, WHICH IS IMPACTING POPULATION GROWTH AND WORKFORCE PARTICIPATION.

THE CITY OF ROSEAU WILL DRAFT A LEASE FOR THIRTY ACRES OF LAND NEAR THE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT WITH MIKE GRAHN, WHO FARMS THAT LAND. THE CITY HAS APPARENTLY NEVER HAD A LEASE IN PLACE FOR THAT PARCEL.
