CONTRACTS EXPIRE THIS JUNE FOR THE ROSEAU TEACHERS ASSOCIATION AND THE ROSEAU EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION.
THOSE TWO GROUPS, TOTALLING 135 EMPLOYEES, REPRESENT THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE ROSEAU SCHOOL DISTRICT’S WORKERS.
THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD, EARLIER THIS MONTH, SAID THEY’RE HOPING TO BEGIN NEGOTIATIONS WITH THOSE GROUPS THIS SPRING.

 

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCED THE RECIPIENTS FOR BORDER TO BORDER BROADBAND GRANTS.
WIKSTROM TELEPHONE COMPANY, SJOBERG’S CABLE TV AND THE ROSEAU ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE HAVE BEEN RECIPIENTS OF PREVIOUS GRANTS TO EXPAND BROADBAND SERVICE IN ROSEAU COUNTY.

IN THIS ROUND, WIKSTROM’S WILL RECEIVE ROUGHLY $490,000, WHILE GARDEN VALLEY TECHNOLOGIES WILL RECEIVE AROUND $1.6 MILLION. MOST OF THAT WILL IMPROVE SERVICES IN KITTSON, MARHSALL, AND POLK COUNTIES.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL MEETS MONDAY EVENING.

 

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO APPLY FOR A ROSEAU COUNTY SMALL BUSINESS AND NONPROFIT GRANT PROGRAM,  INTENDED TO HELP THOSE ENTITIES WHO HAVE LOST REVENUE DURING THE PANDEMIC.

THE COUNTY HAD RECEIVED NEARLY ONE HUNDRED APPLICATIONS BY TUESDAY MORNING.

THE COUNTY HAS THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS AVAILABLE.

 

ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS THOR DIDRIKSON AND JODEE HAUGEN HAVE BEEN RE-APPOINTED TO THE CITY/SCHOOL COMMITTEE;  MICKY HULST TO THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION ADVISORY COUNCIL;  AND TIM FUGLEBERG  TO THE MINNESOTA SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION.

 

A PUBLIC VISITATION FOR LEONA  RINKENBERGER OF WARROAD,  FOLLOWING COVID GUIDELINES,  IS THIS EVENING  (5-7 PM)  WITH A SEVEN O’CLOCK PRAYER SERVICE AT ST MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN WARROAD.   PRIVATE SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT A LATER TIME.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, THIS WEEK,  APPROVED THREE ON-SALE AND FIVE OFF-SALE LIQUOR LICENSES FOR ESTABLISHMENTS OUTSIDE THE CITIES IN THE COUNTY.

ALL ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE BEVERAGE SERVER TRAINING,  BY COUNTY ORDINANCE,  TO GET THEIR LIQUOR LICENSE.

 

MINNESOTA GOVERNOR TIM WALZ IS PROPOSING  ONE-POINT-SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS IN NEW TAXES  (MOSTLY ON WEALTHY MINNESOTANS AND LARGE CORPORATIONS) TO COVER A STATE BUDGET SHORTFALL.

REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVE JOHN BURKEL OF BADGER SAYS  “IMPOSING MASSIVE TAX HIKES ON MINNESOTA FAMILIES AND BUSINESSES IS NOT THE WAY TO SPEED ECONOMIC RECOVERY”.

BURKEL SAYS GOVERNMENT SHOULD TRIM IT’S BUDGET.
