A BILL WHICH WOULD HAVE REQUIRED MINNESOTA UTILITIES TO MOVE AWAY FROM FOSSIL FUEL SOURCES FAILED IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE LAST YEAR;
BUT IT’S BEING RESURRECTED BECAUSE SENATE REPUBLICAN DAVID OSMEK OF MOUND (WHO CHAIRS THE ENERGY AND UTILITIES COMMITTEE) SAYS HE WILL SUPPORT A SIMILAR PLAN THIS YEAR.
GREGG MAST LEADS THE NONPROFIT GROUP CLEAN ENERGY ECONOMY MINNESOTA.
HE SAYS THE DIFFERENCE THIS YEAR IS THE INCLUSION OF NUCLEAR POWER AS A CLEAN ENERGY SOURCE.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, LAST WEEK, MADE COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS. CITY SUPERINTENDENT DAVID DROWN ASKED THE COUNCIL TO RE-FORM AN ARENA COMMITTEE.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  LAST NIGHT,  RE-ELECTED PETE KVIEN IT’S CHAIR.

VONDA DANIELSON IS VICE-CHAIR;   THOR DIDRIKSON CLERK;  AND MICKY HULST TREASURER.

THE BOARD ALSO ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF LONGTIME MATH TEACHER AND COACH TRACEY WENSLOFF,  EFFECTIVE THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD HEARD FROM  DAN MILLER WITH  J-L-G  ARCHITECTS THIS WEEK.

MILLER SAID HIS FIRM HAS STARTED DESIGN WORK ON THE TWO STORY PORTION OF THE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING;  THAT PRE-PLANNING,  AHEAD OF A MAY REFERENDUM,  WOULD SAVE ABOUT A YEAR IN THE PROPOSED RENOVATION PROJECT.

MILLER SAID  J-L-G  IS ALSO ADJUSTING THE PARKING LOT DESIGN.

 

 

THE MINNESOTA  D.N.R.  HAS HIRED A FEDERAL TRAPPER TO CATCH AND  RADIO COLLAR TIMBERWOLVES IN THE RED LAKE WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA.

THAT’S PART OF A WOLF POPULATION ESTIMATE   THE AGENCY DOES EVERY YEAR.

MINNESOTA’S WOLF POPULATION IS ESTIMATED AT ABOUT 27 HUNDRED ANIMALS.

 

 

THE MINNESOTA  D.N.R.  WANTS TO FILL ABOUT TWO HUNDRED PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS.

INTERNS WOULD WORK TWENTY TO FORTY HOURS PER WEEK,  DOING EVERYTHING FROM ACCOUNTING TO WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT.

 

UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA EXTENSION IS ASKING FARMERS WHO PLANTED CORN OR SOYBEANS LAST YEAR TO COMPLETE A SURVEY ON PLANTING AND HARVEST DATES AND YIELD  (AMONG OTHER THINGS).

EXTENSION STAFF IS HOPING TO ADD TO THEIR KNOWLEDGE BASE ON THE IMPACTS OF LATE PLANTING AND OTHER WEATHER-RELATED FACTORS.

 

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR GEORGE PALM OF BAUDETTE ARE TOMORROW AFTERNOON AT TWO  AT FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH IN BAUDETTE.   VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR.    BURIAL IS AT WABANICA CEMETERY AT A LATER DATE.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR KEVIN WILLIAMSON OF GATZKE WILL BE HELD MONDAY (2 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. VISITATION WILL BE SUNDAY (5-7 PM) AT HELGESON’S. KEVIN WILLIAMSON WAS 60.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  THIS WEEK,  DESIGNATED THE LAW FIRM OF RUPP,  ANDERSON,  SQUIRES AND WALDSPURGER AS LEGAL COUNSEL.

 

THE QUIN COUNTY COMMUNITY HEALTH  BOARD MEETS MONDAY IN NEWFOLDEN.

 

CANDLELIGHT SNOWSHOEING IS THIS EVENING AT HAYES LAKE STATE PARK,  SOUTHEAST OF ROSEAU.

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  THIS MONTH,  ACCEPTED A FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR DONATION FROM POLARIS INDUSTRIES FOR THE COUNTY VETERANS SERVICE OFFICE.

 

ABSENTEE VOTING FOR MINNESOTA’S  PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTION STARTS TODAY AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY COURTHOUSE.
