THE PENNINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS IN THE PROCESS OF INSTALLING TECHNOLOGY THAT WILL ALLOW CELLPHONE CALLERS TO STREAM LIVE VIDEO AND AUDIO TO DISPATCHERS WHEN THEY CALL 911 FOR HELP. IF THE DISPATCHER WHO ANSWERS THE CALL THINKS IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO BE ABLE TO SEE AND HEAR WHAT THE CALLER IS SEEING AND HEARING, THEY CAN SEND A TEXT MESSAGE TO THE CALLER’S CELLPHONE, ASKING TO TAKE OVER THE CAMERA. IT’S UP TO THE CALLER TO ACCEPT OR DECLINE.

 

DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE AMY KLOBUCHAR SAYS SHE HAS QUALIFIED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE THIRD DEMOCRATIC DEBATE NEXT MONTH IN HOUSTON. THE MINNESOTA SENATOR’S PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCED FRIDAY THAT IT HAS AMASSED 130,000 INDIVIDUAL DONORS, ONE OF TWO STANDARDS THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE HAS SET FOR CANDIDATES TO QUALIFY FOR THE FALL DEBATE. HER CAMPAIGN SAYS SHE HAS ALSO MET THE PARTY’S POLLING STANDARD BY REACHING 2 PERCENT OR MORE IN FOUR QUALIFYING SURVEYS.

 

AUGUST WIC CLINICS ARE MONDAY IN NEWFOLDEN, TUESDAY IN HALLOCK, WEDNESDAY IN WARROAD, AND THURSDAY IN RED LAKE FALLS.

WITH THE NEW LAW IN EFFECT THIS WEEK IN MINNESOTA, A.A.A. IS WARNING MOTORISTS THAT HAND FREE STILL DOES NOT MEAN RISK FREE. STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT MOTORISTS USING VOICE COMMANDS AND OTHER HAND FREE OPERATIONS STILL HAVE MENTAL DISTRACTION THAT CAN LAST UP TO 27 SECONDS. THEY ALSO REMIND MOTORISTS THAT SMART WATCHES ARE CONSIDERED THE SAME AS A CELL PHONE IN THIS LAW, AND THAT TEENAGE DRIVERS ARE NOT ALLOWED ANY CELL PHONE USE, HANDS FREE OR NOT.

 

THE ANNUAL RELAY FOR LIFE OF ROSEAU COUNTY IS AUGUST 10TH THIS YEAR. IT’S HELD AT THE RIVERVIEW PARK AND ACTIVITIES BEGIN AT 4 P.M.
