MANY  MINNESOTA VOTERS ARE AT THE POLLS TODAY,  DETERMINING MUNICIPAL RACES AND REFERENDUMS.

SECRETARY OF STATE STEVE SIMON SAYS BALLOT SECURITY IS A HIGH PRIORITY; THAT HACKERS WON’T BE TAKING THIS NOVEMBER OFF. MINNESOTA WAS ONE OF TWENTY STATES TARGETED BY RUSSIAN HACKERS IN THE   2016 ELECTION.

 

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR DAN JONES OF ROSEAU IS TOMORROW EVENING AT FIVE AT THE ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL GYM.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR VIOLET SVIR OF BADGER ARE THURSDAY MORNING AT ELEVEN  AT THE BADGER CREEK FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH.   VISITATION IS TOMORROW AT FOUR,  WITH A FIVE O’CLOCK DEVOTIONAL SERVICE,  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR TIM KOFSTAD IS NEXT TUESDAY  (November 12/ 11 a.m.)  AT THE EVANGELICAL COVENANT CHURCH IN ROSEAU.  VISITATION IS NEXT MONDAY EVENING  (5-7 PM)  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.

TIM KOFSTAD WAS  59.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  LAST NIGHT,  HEARD THAT PART-TIME POLICE OFFICER TRAVIS OLAFSON HAS RESIGNED TO TAKE A FULL-TIME POSITION WITH THE WARROAD POLICE DEPARTMENT.

ROSEAU POLICE CHIEF WARD ANDERSON SAID HE’S HAD JUST ONE APPLICANT FOR THE PART-TIME OPENING;  THAT THERE ARE MANY JOBS OPEN, AND NOT MANY POTENTIAL POLICE OFFICERS.

 

MINNESOTA GOVERNOR TIM WALZ SAYS THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OPEN SEATS ON  BOARDS,  COUNCILS AND COMMISSIONS APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR;  AND WALZ IS ENCOURAGING STATE RESIDENTS TO  APPLY.   THERE’S MORE INFORMATION AT THE SECRETARY OF STATE’S WEBSITE.

 

AURI  (THE AGRICULTURAL UTILIZATION RESEARCH INSTITUTE)  AND THE MINNESOTA AGRI-GROWTH COUNCIL ARE HOSTING AN EVENT TOMORROW IN MINNEAPOLIS ON THE OPPORTUNITIES,  OBSTACLES AND EXPANSION OF INDUSTRIAL HEMP.

HAROLD STANISLAWSKI,  WITH AURI  (AND A FORMER ROSEAU COUNTY AG EXTENSION AGENT)  WAS ASKED WHETHER HEMP COULD BECOME A MAJOR CROP IN MINNESOTA.

THE NUMBER OF HEMP GROWERS IN MINNESOTA HAS EXPLODED OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS;  THERE ARE ABOUT A HALF-DOZEN FARMERS GROWING HEMP IN ROSEAU COUNTY.

 

ROSEAU COUNTY IS SELLING ABOUT  TWO DOZEN TAX-FORFEITED PROPERTIES THIS AFTERNOON,  INCLUDING FORTY ACRE PARCELS IN LAONA AND  LAKE  TOWNSHIPS;  AND BUILDING LOTS IN BADGER.

 

‘WIC’  CLINICS ARE TODAY AT THE KITTSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE IN HALLOCK;   TOMORROW AT THE WARROAD AREA COMMUNITY CENTER;  AND THURSDAY AT THE RED LAKE FALLS COMMUNITY CENTER.

 

MINNESOTA’S DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT HOSTS AN ANNUAL MANUFACTURER’S BREAKFAST THIS MORNING AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER.

 

THE NEXT CONCERT IN THE NORTHERN LIGHTS SERIES AT THE ROSEAU SCHOOL THEATRE IS NEXT TUESDAY EVENING  (November 12)  FEATURING VIOLINIST TIMOTHY CHOOI.
