THE  U.S.  SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION IS MAKING ECONOMIC INJURY DISASTER LOANS AVAILABLE IN ROSEAU,  KITTSON, LAKE OF THE WOODS AND MARSHALL COUNTIES; TO COVER DAMAGE FROM EXCESSIVE RAINS IN JUNE AND JULY. THOSE LOANS ARE FOR SMALL BUSINESSES,  NONPROFITS AND FARMERS;  AND DIFFER FROM THE  S.B.A.  COVID LOANS.

A PUBLIC VISITATION FOR MARGARET  ANDERSON OF BAUDETTE,  FOLLOWING MINNESOTA COVID GUIDELINES,  IS THIS EVENING  (5-7 PM)  WITH A SEVEN O’CLOCK PRAYER SERVICE AT THE EVANGELICAL COVENANT CHURCH IN BAUDETTE.   A PRIVATE FUNERAL WILL BE HELD,  WITH BURIAL AT BORDER CEMETERY. ENROLLMENT IN THE ROSEAU SCHOOL DISTRICT LAST WEEK WAS  1146;  THAT’S MORE THAN FOUR HUNDRED FEWER STUDENTS THAN A PEAK IN THE LATE  1990’S. THERE ARE LARGER NUMBERS IN JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH,  BUT JUST TWO CLASSES WITH MORE THAN A HUNDRED STUDENTS. THE SMALLEST GRADE IN ROSEAU IS  SIXTH,  WITH  68 STUDENTS. FIVE  OF THE SEVEN GRADES IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HAVE  85 OR FEWER STUDENTS.

ALLIED CONCERT SERVICES,  WHICH PROVIDES THE ENTERTAINERS FOR ROSEAU’S  NORTHERN LIGHTS CONCERT ASSOCIATION SERIES,  IS POSTPONING ALL OF IT’S  WINTER AND SPRING CONCERT  TOURS, WITH PLANS TO RESUME IN THE FALL OF  2021 … THE ROSEAU CONCERT SERIES ALSO LOST TWO SHOWS SCHEDULED FOR LAST SPRING,  JUST AFTER THE PANDEMIC BEGAN.

MINNESOTA WILL SEE AN INCREASE IN OLDER ADULTS OVER THE NEXT DECADE.   BY THE YEAR  2030,  MORE  THAN ONE IN EVERY FIVE MINNESOTANS WILL BE AN OLDER ADULT. THAT’S LED TO A PUSH FROM  A.A.R.P./ MINNESOTA FOR AN IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS ACROSS THE STATE …

UNITED FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH OF GREENBUSH IS OFFERING A FREE COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DAY MEAL THURSDAY  (11-1).

THE BADGER BAPTIST CHURCH HAS A FOURTH ANNUAL FREE COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER THURSDAY, WITH TAKE OUT OR DELIVERY ONLY.

ROSEAU RIVER WATERSHED DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR TRACY HALSTENSGARD SAYS THE DISTRICT IS WORKING ON A ROSEAU RIVER HABITAT RESTORATION PROJECT AT THE ROSEAU RIVER WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA …. THE WATERSHED DISTRICT CONTINUES WORK ON THEIR WHITNEY LAKE PROJECT;  HALSTENSGARD SAYS  82% OF THE WHITNEY SUB-WATERSHED IS AGRICULTURAL LAND.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD MEETS THIS MORNING.    PUBLIC ATTENDANCE IS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY,  AS THE COURTHOUSE IS CLOSED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC.

A PRIVATE BURIAL FOR JON  C.  JOHNSON OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD AT FALUN CEMETERY;  AND A PUBLIC MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD NEXT SPRING. JON  JOHNSON WAS  63.

A BIPARTISAN GROUP OF LEGISLATORS FROM THE MINNESOTA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HAS ANNOUNCED A PLEDGE TO DEFEAT COVID-19.  THE EFFORT IS BEING LED BY DFL REPRESENTATIVE KELLY MORRISON OF DEEPHAVEN, WHO’S ALSO A PHYSICIAN … ALSO JOINING IN THE PLEDGE WERE REPUBLICANS PAT GAROFALO OF FARMINGTON AND NOLAN WEST OF BLAINE;  AND DFL’ERS  SYDNEY JORDAN OF MINNEAPOLIS,  ERIN KOEGEL OF SPRING LAKE PARK AND MICHAEL HOWARD OF RICHFIELD.

ROSEAU COUNTY HAS  218  4H  MEMBERS,  INCLUDING 71 VOLUNTEERS,  AS REGISTRATION FOR THE PROGRAM CONTINUES.   THAT NUMBER IS DOWN FROM PREVIOUS YEARS,  PRIMARILY DUE TO NO AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMMING DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC.

EAST GRAND FORKS SCHOOLS WILL GO TO DISTANCE LEARNING FOR GRADES     K-12  FOR TWO WEEKS, STARTING MONDAY;  AFTER AN UNANIMOUS VOTE BY THEIR SCHOOL BOARD.

FORMER HERMANTOWN HIGH SCHOOL AND MINNESOTA/DULUTH HOCKEY PLAYER DYLAN SAMBERG SUFFERED NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES IN A THREE VEHICLE CRASH LATE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON ON HIGHWAY 53 IN ST LOUIS COUNTY. SAMBERG’S PICKUP HIT A VEHICLE THAT WAS PARKED ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER HITTING A DEER. FOUR PEOPLE SUSTAINED LIFE THREATENING INJURIES  AFTER THEY WERE STRUCK WHILE OUTSIDE THEIR VEHICLES,  INCLUDING AN ELDERLY COUPLE FROM AURORA. DYLAN SAMBERG SIGNED A PRO HOCKEY CONTRACT WITH THE WINNIPEG JETS LAST APRIL.
