MINNESOTA  D.N.R.  FORESTRY TURNED OFF THE BURNING PERMIT SYSTEM TUESDAY THIS WEEK DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  THIS WEEK,  MET WITH JOE McKINNON FROM THE BEMIDJI OFFICE OF THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. THE BOARD APPROVED A PARTNERSHIP WITH MINN-DOT FOR RE-CONSTRUCTION OF CEDAR AVENUE IN WARROAD,  AS PART OF MINN-DOT’S  HIGHWAY ELEVEN PROJECT IN WARROAD IN EITHER  2023 OR  2024 …. THE COUNTY BOARD ALSO APPROVED THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION MOVING FORWARD WITH A HIGHWAY 89 URBAN CORRIDOR PROJECT IN ROSEAU SCHEDULED FOR  2025. BOTH THE WARROAD AND ROSEAU PROJECTS WILL REQUIRE FINANCIAL PARTICIPATION BY THE COUNTY AND CITIES.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  THIS WEEK,  APPROVED FLEXIBLE LEARNING FRIDAYS AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL,  STARTING TWO WEEKS FROM TOMORROW.THAT FLEX PLAN WAS ALREADY IN PLACE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL. KIM CZEH,  REPRESENTING THE ROSEAU TEACHERS ASSOCIATION,  SAID THE CURRENT TEACHING SITUATION IS NOT WORKING;  A SURVEY OF  65 TEACHERS AND STAFF SHOWED  94% SUPPORTED DISTANCE LEARNING  ON FRIDAYS;   57%  SAID THEY’RE OVERWHELMED;  AND  40%  SAID THEY’RE HAVING MENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS.

THERE IS A PROSPECT FOR SNOW SATURDAY IN ROSEAU COUNTY. NATHAN RICK,  AT THE GRAND FORKS NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE,  SAYS THAT WOULD NOT BE UNUSUAL IN MID-OCTOBER ….

ROSEAU’S ZACH YON,  WHOSE COLLEGE HOCKEY ELIGIBILITY ENDED LAST SPRING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA,  WAS LOOKING AT SEVERAL PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY OPPORTUNITIES IN EUROPE THIS SUMMER. MOST RECENTLY,  AN OPPORTUNITY IN NORWAY FELL THROUGH,  DUE TO VISA ISSUES. YON SAYS,  FOR NOW,  HIS HOCKEY CAREER IS OVER ….ZACH YON IS PURSUING AN ENGINEERING DEGREE.

SECOND HALF TAXES ON ALL REAL ESTATE AND PERSONAL PROPERTY,  EXCEPT FARM CLASSIFICATIONS AND MOBILE HOMES,  ARE DUE BY TODAY AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY TREASURER’S OFFICE. THE APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR  “CARES”  ACT FUNDING FOR ROSEAU COUNTY NONPROFITS ENDED LAST FRIDAY, WITH JUST NINE APPLICATIONS. TWO POINT TWO MILLION DOLLARS IN COUNTY  “CARES”  ACT MONEY MUST BE ALLOCATED BY DECEMBER.

44 YEAR OLD JAMES RODRIQUEZ  WAS TAKEN TO KITTSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN HALLOCK WITH NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES   LATE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON  (5:30 P.M.)  AFTER THE MACK TRUCK HE WAS DRIVING TIPPED OVER IN DONALDSON. RODRIQUEZ  WAS TURNING ON TO HIGHWAY ELEVEN FROM HIGHWAY  75.

THE PERSONAL FINANCE WEBSITE   WalletHub  SAYS MINNESOTA IS THE FOURTH MOST ENERGY EFFICIENT STATE IN THE NATION,  BEHIND UTAH,  NEW YORK AND MASSACHUSETTS. NORTH DAKOTA WAS  33RD ON THE WEBSITE’S LIST. THE LEAST ENERGY EFFICIENT STATES ARE ALL IN THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES.
