07/08/2020

RCMP are reporting a drowning happened Monday in Lake of the Woods near the Buffalo Point First Nation.

Sprague RCMP was notified at 5:45 pm. Officers were told that a 67-year-old male, from the Rural Municipality of Morris, was fishing out of the lake with two other men, a 74-year-old and a 59-year-old. While attempting to retrieve a fish from the water, he fell out of the boat. The man was not wearing a life jacket and immediately began having difficulty in the water.

Police say the 59-year-old dove into the water to help and after a short period of time, the two men managed to remove him from the water, and returned to shore. Once on shore, medical assistance was provided until EMS arrived, who later pronounced him dead.

Sprague RCMP, along with the office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate.
