SUNDAY’S GRAND FORKS HERALD HAD A BRAD DOKKEN STORY ABOUT NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA SNOWMOBILE CLUBS. THERE ARE TWENTY-TWO THOUSAND MILES OF GROOMED SNOWMOBILE TRAILS IN MINNESOTA, AND LOCAL CLUBS GROOM TWENTY-ONE THOUSAND OF THOSE MILES. THE ROSEAU COUNTY TRAILBLAZERS,  LAKE OF THE WOODS DRIFTERS AND THE GRYGLA/FOURTOWN SPORTSMANS CLUB MAINTAIN ABOUT A THOUSAND MILES OF TRAIL.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  REVIEWED FOUR PLANNING OPTIONS AND COSTS PROVIDED BY  KRAUS/ANDERSON AND THE NUMBER TEN ARCHITECTURAL GROUP TO A SCHOOL DISTRICT TASK FORCE – LOOKING AT OPTIONS FOR BUILDING NEW OR RENOVATING THE OLDEST PARTS OF THE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING.SUPERINTENDENT LARRY GUGGISBERG SAYS THE TASK FORCE IS SEEKING PUBLIC INPUT ….THE NEXT MEETING OF THAT TASK FORCE,  NEXT MONDAY EVENING,  WILL INCLUDE A TAX IMPACT PRESENTATION FROM EHLERS AND ASSOCIATES.

A HOUSE-BUILDING PROJECT PLANNED BY THE CITY OF ROSEAU WITH THE ROSEAU SCHOOL IS IN DOUBT,  AFTER ESTIMATED CONSTRUCTION COSTS JUMPED TO MORE THAN  265 THOUSAND DOLLARS.    THAT CONSTRUCTION COST WOULD BE HIGHER THAN THE ANTICIPATED SALE PRICE FOR THE HOUSE. NORTHWEST COMMUNITY ACTION,  WHICH WOULD HAVE OVERSEEN THE PROJECT,  RAISED CONCERNS ABOUT THE COSTS INVOLVED.

THE UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA WOMEN’S HOCKEY TEAM HOSTS PRINCETON IN A FIRST ROUND  N.C.A.A. TOURNAMENT GAME THIS WEEKEND IN MINNEAPOLIS. ROSEAU’S TIANNA GUNDERSON IS A GOLDEN GOPHERS SENIOR,  WHO’S NEARING THE END OF HER COLLEGE HOCKEY CAREER ….  MINNESOTA IS THE SECOND SEED, BEHIND WISCONSIN,  IN THE EIGHT-TEAM N.C.A.A. TOURNAMENT FIELD.

A PUBLIC INPUT MEETING ON A PROPOSED BORDER-TO-BORDER TOURING ROUTE FROM LAKE SUPERIOR TO NORTH DAKOTA IS THIS EVENING  (6-8 PM)  AT THE LAKE OF THE WOODS SCHOOL IN BAUDETTE. THAT ROUTE INCLUDES LAKE OF THE WOODS COUNTY, BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE ROSEAU COUNTY.

A PANCAKE BREAKFAST BENEFIT FOR MITCH BERGER,  TO HELP WITH MEDICAL COSTS,  IS SUNDAY  (8-1)  AT THE WANNASKA COMMUNITY CENTER.

A ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL KNOWLEDGE BOWL TEAM COMPETES AT THE SECTION EIGHT REGIONAL TODAY IN THIEF RIVER FALLS.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH FOR ROSEAU COUNTY,  BUT FORECASTERS SAY PARTS OF THE RED RIVER VALLEY COULD SEE THE “WORST BLIZZARD OF THE SEASON”. GREG GUST,  IN GRAND FORKS,  SAYS THE RAIN AND SNOW IN ROSEAU COUNTY SHOULDN’T ALTER A PREVIOUS SPRING FLOOD FORECAST …. A BADGER HIGH SCHOOL PLAY,  CALLED  “JUST ANOTHER HIGH SCHOOL PLAY”,  WILL BE PERFORMED NEXT THURSDAY AND FRIDAY  (March 21 and 22)  AT THE BADGER SCHOOL.   TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SAYS SPRING LOAD RESTRICTIONS TAKE EFFECT FRIDAY IN THE SOUTH,  SOUTHEAST,  METRO AND CENTRAL FROST ZONES.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, YESTERDAY,  HEARD FROM GRETCHEN MEHMEL FROM THE RED LAKE WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA. SHE SAID NORRIS CAMP WILL BE  “GOING OFF THE GRID”  NEXT YEAR,  ADDING SOLAR ENERGY PANELS WHICH WILL PROVIDE MORE THAN NINETY PERCENT OF THE ELECTRICITY AT THAT  D.N.R.  LOCATION. MEHMEL SAID THE DECISION WAS MADE AFTER AN ESTIMATE OF BETWEEN THREE AND FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS TO REPLACE ABOUT FIFTEEN MILES OF BURIED ELECTRIC CABLE TO THE CAMP.
