OFFICIALS CONTINUE TO WARN THAT POCKETS OF THE POPULATION WHERE VACCINE RATES REMAIN LOWER ARE AT A MUCH HIGHER RISK. OF POSITIVE CASES OF COVID NATIONWIDE, THEY SAY THE DELTA VARIANT IS NOW RESPONSIBLE FOR ROUGHLY 83% OF THOSE.

STATE OFFICIALS CONTINUE TO REMIND THE PUBLIC THAT MINNESOTA’S ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM HAS AN ADDITIONAL $167 MILLION OF FEDERAL PANDEMIC RELIEF FUNDS TO HELP THOSE WHO ARE BEHIND ON UTILITY BILLS. THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE SAYS THERE IS ROUGHLY 340,000 HOUSEHOLDS IN MINNESOTA THAT ARE BEHIND ON BILLS. THE ELIGIBILITY FOR THAT PROGRAM HAS BEEN EXTENDED AND THE INCOME LIMITS HAVE BEEN RAISED.

Authorities say a woman has been arrested for a bank robbery in Wyndmere, west of Wahpeton. The Lincoln State Bank was held up at gunpoint shortly before 11 a.m. Monday. The Richland County Sheriff’s office says a 43-year-old Moorhead, Minnesota woman was arrested after a tip from someone who recognized images released to the media. KFGO radio reports the suspect is jailed in Fargo and awaiting federal charges.

 

Sheriff’s officials say a Colorado man has drowned after a severe storm moving through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northeastern Minnesota capsized his canoe. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday multiple agencies responded to a report of a water emergency on Loon Lake. Canoe Country Outfitters in Ely told dispatchers two people were thrown into the water Monday when heavy rain and strong wind overturned their canoe. One person made it to shore while the other was missing. First responders later recovered the body of 73-year-old Wayne Morrow, of Fort Lupton, Colorado.

 

THE DULUTH SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT AND SCHOOL BOARD MET YESTERDAY TO ADAPT THE DISTRICTS SAFE LEARNING PLAN, AND IT CONFIRMS THE DISTRICT WILL RETURN TO IN-PERSON LEARNING, FIVE DAYS PER WEEK THIS FALL. MASKS WILL STILL BE PART OF THE PLAN FOR THOSE TWO YEARS OF AGE THROUGH FIFTH GRADE, AND FOR ALL STUDENTS WHILE USING DISTRICT TRANSPORTATION SUCH AS BUSES. THEY NOTE THAT THAT IS A FEDERAL MANDATE, NOT A DISTRICT DECISION.

 

A BODY WAS FOUND LYING ON THE TRAIN TRACKS NEAR DULUTH’S LEIF ERICKSON PARK YESTERDAY MORNING. THE PUBLIC WAS ASKED TO AVOID THE AREA, BUT OFFICIALS DID NOT EXPECT DANGER TO THE PUBLIC OR SUSPECT FOUL PLAY. THE MAN’S IDENTITY WAS WITHHELD PENDING NOTIFICATION OF FAMILY.
