THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD HAS APPROVED HIRING STEPHEN SLICK AS HIGHWAY ENGINEER. HE’LL START IN THAT POSITION IN NOVEMBER. THE COUNTY HAS BEEN WITHOUT A HIGHWAY ENGINEER FOR SIXTEEN MONTHS, SINCE THE DEPARTURE OF BRIAN KETRING. SLICK IS ORIGINALLY FROM BAUDETTE, AND CURRENTLY WORKING FOR A PRIVATE COMPANY IN GRAND FORKS.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, THIS WEEK, APPROVED A LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX FOR ROAD PROJECTS. ABOUT FIFTY OTHER MINNESOTA COUNTIES HAVE IMPOSED THAT HALF-CENT SALES TAX SINCE IT WAS APPROVED BY THE STATE LEGISLATURE IN 2008. THE ADDITIONAL SALES TAX TAKES EFFECT IN JANUARY. THE VOTE TO APPROVE WAS FOUR TO ONE, WITH BOARD CHAIR DARYL WICKLUND OPPOSED.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD HAS APPROVED A FOUR THOUSAND DOLLAR CONTRACT WITH A HEALTH INSURANCE CONSULTANT, WHO’LL BE TASKED WITH SEEKING THE BEST INSURANCE OPTION FOR COUNTY EMPLOYEES. THE NORTHWEST SERVICE COOPERATIVE HAS SWITCHED FROM BLUE CROSS/ BLUE SHIELD AS A PROVIDER, TO MEDICA; AND IS PROPOSING A FIVE PERCENT COST INCREASE FOR 2022.

A REMINDER FROM THE ROSEAU COUNTY TREASURER’S OFFICE THAT FIRST HALF TAXES ON ALL MOBILE HOMES ARE DUE ON AUGUST 31. PAYMENTS CAN NOW BE MADE ONLINE AT CO.ROSEAU.MN.US, WITH A SMALL CONVENIENCE FEE ADDED.

THE GRAND FORKS HERALD RECENTLY FEATURED A STORY ON ROSEAU’S MIKE HETTEEN, AND HIS TRIP TO ALASKA TO RELIVE SOME POLARIS HISTORY THAT HIS FATHER ALLAN HELPED CREATE NEARLY 60 YEARS AGO.

 

BRAD DOKKEN HAS A STORY IN THE GRAND FORKS HERALD WITH KODY STARK OF GRAFTON, TALKING ABOUT IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROCESSES THAT ALLOW A PERSON TO DRIVE FROM MINNESOTA, THROUGH CANADA, TO THE NORTHWEST ANGLE. STARK SAYS THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN WITH THE ARRIVECAN APP, THE NEED TO LIST A CANADIAN QUARANTINE ADDRESS, AND ARRANGING FOR A COVID TEST BEFORE RETURNING, IF YOUR STAY AT THE ANGLE WAS LONGER THAN 72 HOURS.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL WILL HOST A RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR PHASE 1 PORTION OF THE ROSEAU SCHOOL PROJECT TOMORROW MORNING AT 11:30. THERE WILL BE AN OPEN HOUSE TO FOLLOW AND TOURS OF COMPLETED PORTION WILL BE AVAILABLE. THE EVENT IS OPEN TO ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND.

THE ROSEAU PUBLIC LIBRARY IS HOSTING AN END OF SUMMER BREAK ICE CREAM SOCIAL FOR CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES TOMORROW AFTERNOON FROM 2:00-4:00.

A GROUNDBREAKING ON THE ELEVEN01 APARTMENT PROJECT IN ROSEAU WILL BE HELD NEXT WEDNESDAY AT 11:00. THAT IS A DEVELOPMENT WITH THE CITY OF ROSEAU ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OWNERSHIP, AND WILL BRING 37 UNITS TO A HOUSING STARVED ROSEAU COMMUNITY.
