A RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR THE ROSEAU RIVER WATERSHED DISTRICT’S  ROSEAU RIVER WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA OUTLET PROJECT IS JUNE  25TH AT CARIBOU.

THERE ARE  3400 AVAILABLE LICENSES,  ALTHOUGH THERE ARE ALSO NO-QUOTA AREAS IN EAST CENTRAL AND FAR NORTHWEST MINNESOTA. THE BLACK BEAR HUNTING SEASON IS THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF SEPTEMBER. THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  EARLIER THIS MONTH,  TALKED ABOUT A NEED FOR ADDITIONAL BUILDING LOTS IN THE CITY; WHICH LED TO A DISCUSSION ON THE POTENTIAL OF THE CITY CREATING A NEW SUBDIVISION.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  ISSUED A NOTICE OF INTENT TO CLASSIFY OR RE-CLASSIFY TAX FORFEITED PARCELS IN THE COUNTY, FOR A FALL LAND SALE.

THE APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR THE ROSEAU SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT’S POSITION BEING VACATED BY THE RESIGNATION OF LARRY GUGGISBERG IS MONDAY  (May 22).   THE FIRST ROUND OF INTERVIEWS ARE IN EARLY MAY.

THE MINNESOTA SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION IS HELPING THE ROSEAU DISTRICT IN THE SEARCH PROCESS;   EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR KIRK SCHNEIDAWIND WAS ASKED WHETHER THE CANDIDATE POOL IS LIMITED?

A GIANT INDOOR EASTER EGG HUNT FOR KIDS IS SATURDAY  (Ten to Noon)  AT THE ROSEAU COMMUNITY SCHOOL.

REPUBLICAN STATE REPRESENTATIVE DAN FABIAN OF ROSEAU,  AND REPUBLICAN STATE SENATOR MARK JOHNSON OF EAST GRAND FORKS HAVE TOWN HALL MEETINGS THIS MORNING  (8:30 A.M.)  IN HALLOCK;   THIS MORNING  (11 A.M.)  AT TWINS ROCKIN’ 50’S CAFÉ IN GREENBUSH;  AND THIS AFTERNOON    (1 PM)  AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER.

JOE LAURIN HAS A PRESENTATION ON LAKE OF THE WOODS TOMORROW AS PART OF THE ROSEAU LUNCH AT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY TRAVEL SERIES.

AN ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL RAINY/ LAKE OF THE WOODS WATERSHED FORUM WAS HELD IN MID-MARCH IN INTERNATIONAL FALLS.TODD SELLERS,  FROM THE LAKE OF THE WOODS SUSTAINABILITY GROUP IN KENORA, ONTARIO –  SAYS THE WATER QUALITY ON BOTH BODIES OF WATER IS AFFECTED BY SEVERAL SOURCES.

A UNITED NATIONS CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE HELD IN POLAND AT THE END OF LAST YEAR IS NOT LIKELY TO CAUSE COUNTRIES TO OFFER STRONGER COMMITMENT TO REDUCING CARBON EMISSIONS.SHEFALI SHARMA WAS ONE OF A HANDFUL OF MINNESOTANS AT THAT CONFERENCE;  SHE SAYS A GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT IS THE BEST OPTION. ELEVEN MINNESOTA MAYORS HAVE COMMITTED THEIR CITIES TO A CARBON REDUCTION EFFORT.

LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER OFFERS A FREE LUNCH AND LEARN WITH DOCTOR BETH NOLAN MAY 4TH  (10-2)  AT THE ROSEAU SCHOOL THEATRE.   SHE’LL TALK ABOUT A  POSITIVE APPROACH TO CARE.

U.S.  CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION PUTS SUMMER HOURS AT THE LANCASTER PORT OF ENTRY INTO EFFECT MAY  12TH.   CURRENT HOURS AT THAT PORT ARE EIGHT A.M. TO SIX P.M.;  SUMMER HOURS ARE EIGHT TO EIGHT THROUGH MID-SEPTEMBER.

PUBLIC COMMENT ON THE PROPOSED LAKE OF THE WOODS ONE WATERSHED ONE PLAN WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH JUNE  10TH. MORE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE AT THE WEBSITE  ( www.low1w1p.org ).

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  THIS WEEK,  TALKED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF HIRING A PARKING LOT ATTENDANT FOR AFTER-SCHOOL HOURS,  DUE TO INCREASED TRAFFIC IN THAT LOT.    BOARD MEMBERS SUGGESTED MORE LOCKED DOORS IN THE SCHOOL BUILDING HAVE FUNNELED TRAFFIC TO THE PARKING LOT.  THE SCHOOL’S LAST PARKING LOT ATTENDANT WAS BILL JENNINGS.

AN ARTISTS RECEPTION FOR CATHY FORGIT OF FERTILE AND JEAN HONL OF ROSEAU IS MAY 4TH AT THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA ARTS GALLERY IN EAST GRAND FORKS.   HONL,  WHO DOES ROSEMALING,  WAS RECENTLY NAMED THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA ARTIST OF THE YEAR.
