DNR CONSERVATION OFFICER REPORTS FROM THE PAST WEEK SHOW THAT THE NOT-SO-IDEAL CONDITIONS FOR SATURDAY’S FISHING OPENER DID LITTLE TO SLOW THE TURNOUT FOR ANGLERS AS THE OPENER WAS STILL INCREDIBLY BUSY ON AREA BODIES OF WATER, BUT THE CONDITIONS DID SEEM TO AFFECT THE SUCCESS FOR THE ANGLERS. TYPICAL ENFORCEMENT FOR OVER LIMITS, LICENSE OR REGISTRATION VIOLATIONS, AND LACK OF LIFE SAVING DEVICES WAS NEEDED.

MINNESOTA’S D.A.R.E. PROGRAM IS BUSY EDUCATING IT’S 50TH CLASS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT. AFTER A PAUSE IN TRAINING DUE TO COVID 19, THE PROGRAM RECENTLY CERTIFIED A NEW CLASS OF OFFICERS AND WILL ANOTHER TRAINING IN JULY. OFFICER ZACH MANKA WITH THE ROSEAU CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS ONCE OF THE MOST RECENTLY CERTIFIED OFFICERS. THE PROGRAM, SHORT FOR DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION, TEACHES YOUTH ABOUT THE DANGERS OF DRUGS, ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, VAPING, AND ALSO TACKLES TOPICS SUCH AS BULLYING AND SOON WILL INCLUDE SOCIAL MEDIA TOPICS.

WARROAD EAGLES WILL HOST A BENEFIT FOR CONNER SAMSON ON MAY 22 FROM 11:00-2:00. CONNER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH M-S AT THE AGE OF ONE, AND CONTINUES WITH REGULAR TREATMENTS IN FARGO. THE BENEFIT WILL FEATURE A MEATBALL AND MASHED POTATO DINNER, WITH VARIOUS RAFFLES INCLUDING A MEAT AND GUN RAFFLE. ALL PROCEED WILL HELP WITH TRAVEL AND MEDICAL EXPENSES.

THE ROSEAU VFW AUXILIARY AT POST 8663 IS HOLDING THEIR ANNUAL POPPY DISTRIBUTION THROUGH THE COURSE OF THIS WEEK.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR SAM GIBBONS, FORMERLY OF WARROAD, WILL BE HELD THIS MORNING (10 AM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN WARROAD. INTERMENT WILL BE HELD AT RIVERSIDE CEMETERY IN WARROAD. SAM GIBBONS WAS 92.
