THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD MEETS IN SPECIAL SESSION TOMORROW  (Noon).  AMONG OTHER THINGS,  THEY’LL HIRE A BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS SUPERINTENDENT.

ROSEAU  8TH GRADER MAX WILSON IS ONE OF THE SEMIFINALISTS FOR THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC STATE GEOGRAPHY BEE. HE’LL COMPETE LATER THIS MONTH IN MINNEAPOLIS.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  LAST NIGHT,  RE-APPOINTED CRAIG McMILLIN FIRE CHIEF. MARK BERNAT IS THE ASSISTANT CHIEF;  TROY HAMMER IS CAPTAIN;  AND LEON HUOT AND JEREMY GRINDELAND ARE LIEUTENANTS. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PRESIDENT IS EVAN ROSEMORE.

A PANCAKE BENEFIT FOR GERALD MANNING OF BADGER,  TO HELP WITH MEDICAL EXPENSES,  IS MARCH  24TH AT THE BADGER COMMUNITY CENTER.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR DELBERT HOWELL OF BADGER ARE THIS MORNING AT ELEVEN  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.   VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR. DELBERT  HOWELL WAS  85.

THE WARROAD SUMMER THEATRE SEASON STARTS NEXT MONTH WITH A SPRING DINNER SHOW CALLED  “BREAKING AND ENTERING”. SHOWS ARE THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF APRIL AT THE WARROAD AMERICAN LEGION.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  MET WITH CONSTRUCTION MANAGER MIKE PONTIUS WITH MINNESOTA POWER. THE COMPANY HAS GIVEN THE COUNTY A TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR ASSURANCE BOND IF THEY DAMAGE COUNTY ROAD  137  IN LAKE TOWNSHIP DURING CONSTRUCTION OF THE GREAT NORTHERN TRANSMISSION LINE.

THE NORTHWEST REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION HAD ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR IN 2018. THEIR ANNUAL REPORT SAYS THE ENTERPRISE LOAN FUND OFFERED MORE THAN NINE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS IN LOANS TO NEW AND EXPANDING BUSINESSES,  INCLUDING A LOAN TO THE LAKE OF THE WOODS BREWING COMPANY’S EXPANSION TO WARROAD. CAM FANFULIK IS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE  N.W.R.D.C.

‘WIC’  CLINICS ARE TODAY AT THE KITTSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE IN HALLOCK;  AND TOMORROW AT THE WARROAD AREA COMMUNITY CENTER.

IMPROVEMENT EFFORTS CONTINUE AT THE ROSEAU MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, WITH A NEW TERMINAL BUILDING.THE EXISTING HANGAR FOR THE AIR AMBULANCE WILL BE MOVED,  AS WILL THE AIRPORT FUEL SYSTEM.ROSEAU COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR TODD PETERSON SAYS IT’S BEEN A LONG-TIME EFFORT ….

TWIN CITIES SONGWRITER ALEX FRECON RELEASED A SONG AND VIDEO LAST YEAR CALLED  “I’M FROM MINNESOTA”,  WHICH REFERENCES MANY OF THE STATE’S STEREOTYPES. FRECON SAYS HE WROTE THE SONG IN RESPONSE TO HIS COLLEGE CLASSMATES. THE LYRICS INCLUDE THE LINE  “STRANGERS ALWAYS WAVE LIKE THEY KNOW YA”.
