THE NEW MARKET FACILITATION PROGRAM, ANNOUNCED LAST WEEK, WILL HAVE VARYING PAYMENT RATES IN NEIGHBORING COUNTIES. THE PAYMENTS ARE BASED ON USDA’S ESTIMATES OF ECONOMIC DAMAGE DUE TO ONGOING TRADE WARS.
MINNESOTA COUNTY RATES FOR NON-SPECIALTY CROPS INCLUDE 43 DOLLARS IN ROSEAU AND MARSHALL COUNTIES; 42 DOLLARS IN KITTSON COUNTY; AND 46 DOLLARS IN LAKE OF THE WOODS COUNTY.

 

U.S. PUBLIC SCHOOLS RECENTLY ADOPTED THE EVERY STUDENT SUCCEEDS ACT, AND THE PERSONAL FINANCE WEBSITE WalletHub HAS RELEASED A REPORT ON THE BEST AND WORST STATE SCHOOL SYSTEMS IN THE UNITED STATES. MASSACHUSETTS, NEW JERSEY AND CONNECTICUT WERE THE TOP THREE; LOUISANA, ARIZONA AND MISSISSIPPI WERE THE BOTTOM THREE.
MINNESOTA WAS 6TH ON THAT LIST.

ROSEAU ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE CREWS WILL BE DOING EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE WORK ON THE MALUNG SUBSTATION THIS MORNING (Nine to Noon) WHICH WILL MEAN A POWER OUTAGE IN PARTS OF BEAVER, GOLDEN VALLEY, GRIMSTAD, MALUNG, MICKINOCK, PALMVILLE AND REINE TOWNSHIPS.

 

WOJO’S RODEO IS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AT LAKE BRONSON, AS PART OF BRONSON FEST.

 

THE NORTH COUNTRY FOOD BANK OF CROOKSTON HAS SIGNED AN AGREEMENT TO BUY A TWO-POINT-FIVE MILLION DOLLAR, THIRTY-FIVE THOUSAND SQUARE FOOT BUILDING IN EAST GRAND FORKS TO REPLACE IT’S SMALLER AND OUTDATED FACILITY IN CROOKSTON.
THE FOOD BANK, WHICH SERVES FOOD SHELVES IN ROSEAU AND WARROAD, HAS ORIGINALLY PLANNED TO BUILD A NEW SIX MILLION DOLLAR FACILITY IN CROOKSTON.
ROSEAU COUNTY HAS PLEDGED MONEY TOWARD THAT FOOD BANK EFFORT.

 

A MEDICATION TAKE BACK DAY IS NEXT TUESDAY (August 6/ Noon to Four) AT THE WARROAD LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER; THE NORTH PARKING LOT AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER; AND AT THE GREENBUSH FIRE HALL.
THE GOAL IS FOR PEOPLE TO SAFELY DISCARD OLD AND UNNEEDED PRESCRIPTION PILLS.

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, LAST WEEK, ADDED A PARCEL IN THE CITY OF STRATHCONA TO THE TAX FORFEIT LIST; WITH THE INTENTION OF GIFTING IT TO STRATHCONA.
IT’S PART OF THE STRATHCONA CITY PARK.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD MEETS IN A WORK SESSION THIS EVENING AS THEY CONTINUE DISCUSSION OF A PROPOSED BUILDING OR RENOVATION PROJECT.

 

THE ANNUAL ROSEAU CIVIC AND COMMERCE CRAZY DAYS PROMOTION IS THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.

 

THE MOOSE RIVER DIKE TRAIL OPENED FOR OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLES IN MID JULY, AS PART OF A TWO YEAR PILOT PROJECT BY THE MINNESOTA D.N.R.
JOHN WILLIAMS, AT THE DNR’S NORTHWEST REGIONAL OFFICE IN BEMIDJI. THAT TRAIL HAD BEEN OPEN FOR HIGHWAY VEHICLES FROM MID-JULY TO MID-SEPTEMBER FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS.

 

A REPORT FROM THE GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY CENTER FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES SAYS MINNESOTA’S MEDICAID COVERAGE HAS IMPROVED HEALTH OUTCOMES FOR MOTHERS AND BABIES.
