THE FALL WOLF HUNT IN WISCONSIN REMAINS ON HOLD, AS IT HAS BEEN SINCE NOVEMBER 6. THERE ARE SEVERAL LAWSUITS HOLDING UP THAT HUNTING SEASON, INCLUDING ONE IN FEDERAL COURT FILED BY SIX WISCONSIN TRIBES.

WITH THE DISCOVERY OF CHRONIC WASTING DISEASE IN A WILD DEER NEAR CLIMAX THIS SEASON, CEARWATER, MAHNOMNE, MARHSHALL, NORMAN, PENNINGTON, POLK, AND RED LAKE COUNTIES ARE ALL ADDED TO THE LIST OF COUNTIES WHERE DEER FEEDING AND THE USE OF ATTRACTANTS SUCH AS SALT, MINERALS, AND URINE IS NOT ALLOWED. ROSEAU, LAKE OF THE WOODS AND KOOCHICHING COUNTIES ARE ON A LIST WHERE DEER FEEDING IS NOT ALLOWED.

ANGLERS HAVE BEGUN TO CONVERGE ON NORTHERN MINNESOTA LAKES AS ICE FISHING RAMPS UP. UPPER RED LAKE HAD AN AVERAGE ICE THICKNESS OF ABOUT 8 INCHES, AND STILL THERE WAS A REPORT OF AN ATV GOING THROUGH THE ICE. WHEREVER YOU ARE, THE DNR IS URGING CAUTION ON THE ICE. AT A MEETING LAST MONTH, THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD APPROVED THE ROSEAU COUNTY TRAILBLAZERS GRANT-IN-AID REQUEST TO THE STATE FOR 578 THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR NEXT YEAR. THAT MONEY WILL BE USED TO IMPROVE THE TWENTY-MILE RAILBED BETWEEN WARROAD AND ROSEAU.

SNOWMOBILE ENTHUSIASTS HAVE TWO EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO ON DECEMBER 11. THE POLARIS EXPERIENCE CENTER WILL BE CELEBRATING A 20TH ANNIVERSARY WITH REFRESHMENTS AND DOOR PRIZES AND THE DAVID JOHNSON VINTAGE SNOCAT SPECTACULAR WILL BE HELD THAT DAY ATEH ROSEAU EVENT CENTER.
