THE OVERALL U.S. POPULATION STOOD AT 331,449,281, THE CENSUS BUREAU SAID ON MONDAY, A 7.4% INCREASE OVER 2010 REPRESENTING THE SECOND-SLOWEST GROWTH OF ANY DECADE IN HISTORY. UNDER THE U.S. CONSTITUTION, THE 435 SEATS IN THE HOUSE AND THE VOTES IN THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE THAT SELECT THE PRESIDENT EVERY FOUR YEARS ARE DIVIDED AMONG THE 50 STATES BASED ON POPULATION, AND CAN OFTEN COME DOWN TO RAZOR THIN MARGINS. FOR EXAMPLE, IF NEW YORK HAD 89 MORE PEOPLE (OR 89 MORE RESPONDENTS TO THE CENSUS) THEY WOULD HAVE GAINED ONE OF THOSE SEATS, AT THE EXPENSE OF MINNESOTA. MINNESOTA WAS AIDED BY THE COUNTRY’S BEST VOLUNTARY RESPONSE RATE TO THE CENSUS.

 

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SAYS ROSEAU COUNTY ADDED 29 NEW POSITIVE COVID CASES OVER THE PAST WEEK FOR A TOTAL OF 2008 CASES OVER THE PAST THIRTEEN MONTHS. ROSEAU COUNTY ALSO ADDED ANOTHER COVID DEATH IN THE PAST WEEK, FOR A TOTAL OF NINETEEN SINCE LAST APRIL. LIFECARE PUBLIC HEALTH HAS ADMINISTERED 6513 COVID VACCINES SINCE LATE DECEMBER; 2849 OF THOSE ARE SECOND DOSES. LIFECARE PLANS VACCINATION CLINICS TOMORROW AT THE GREENBUSH AND ROSEAU SCHOOLS.

 

OUR REDEEMER’S LUTHERAN CHURCH OF BADGER WILL HOLD THEIR 4TH ANNUAL FISH FRY THIS FRIDAY FROM 4:30-7:00. THOSE MEALS ARE BEING DONE AS TAKE OUT OR DRIVE THRU.

 

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR DIANE MELLSTROM OF INTERNATIONAL FALLS, FORMERLY OF ROSEAU, WILL BE HELD THIS FRIDAY (2 PM) AT THE EVANGELICAL COVENANT CHURCH IN INTERNATIONAL FALLS.  VISITATION WILL BE AN HOUR PRIOR. INTERMENT WILL BE AT THE FOREST HILL CEMETERY IN INTERNATIONAL FALLS FOLLOWING THE SERVICE.

 

THE MINNESOTA SENATE ON THURSDAY APPROVED A COMPREHENSIVE, BIPARTISAN TRANSPORTATION BUDGET THAT INVESTS BILLIONS OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS IN THE STATE’S TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE WITHOUT A GAS TAX, MILEAGE TAX, SALES TAX, OR LICENSE TAB FEE INCREASE. THE BILL INCLUDES A $5.6 MILLION GRANT TO THE CITY OF KARLSTAD TO HELP CONSTRUCT A NEW AIRPORT. THE BILL ESTABLISHES LOCAL DRIVER’S LICENSE TESTING LOCATIONS IN CROOKSTON, EAST GRAND FORKS, HALLOCK, ROSEAU, THIEF RIVER FALLS, AND WARREN.

 

PRELIMINARY FIGURES FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY SHOW 102 PEOPLE HAVE DIED ON MINNESOTA ROADS SINCE JAN. 1, COMPARED TO 82 LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME. THE STATE REPORTED ITS 100TH TRAFFIC DEATH (PRELIMINARY) ON APRIL 21. THIS IS THE EARLIEST DATE REACHING THE PRELIMINARY FIGURE OF 100 TRAFFIC FATALITIES IN THE LAST SIX YEARS.

 

VISITATION AT MINNESOTA STATE PARKS SOARED TO AN ESTIMATED 12.3 MILLION PEOPLE LAST YEAR, AN INCREASE OF 25% FROM 2019, ACCORDING TO THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES.
